Hey All

It's been a while (7 years +) since I've pulled this baby out of the safe and I'm curious about what it might be worth these days because I'm thinking of selling to pick up a new precision rimfire rig. It's a low round count (<200) HK SL8-5 that's been modified with a Hera stock adapter + ACR stock, a Spuhr magwell (STANAG Mag conversion) and the HK 3x single optic carry handle (for G36).

Firearm is in mint shape, no nicks or dings and includes all original hardware, both long and short rails with irons, case, tools, 10x STANAG mags and a spare 5.56 magwell made by S&G Hardware.

What's it realistically worth today? What would you list it at?

Thanks in advance!

Here's how much G4C has it listed for if / when it comes back in.

I think that was the previous price a year ago or so. So I think the $2500 is probably a reasonable guess insofar as what we may see it for should it come back.

Wolverine has it listed for $2100 or so, though again out of stock.

Durham Outdoors has same price:

Dante has them for $2400 for the SL8-4:

Then again, I have heard HK is focusing more on the military market and less on the civilian market, so it may be a long wait to see these back.

I seem to recall North Sylva indicating there is no ETA on these.

Not sure what the used market is for these though, since I am not sure that the demand is what it once was. Some buyers may have just given up and moved on to other makes and models.

I was hoping my LGS would get one in earlier this year, when they received a shipment of SL8 magazines (I bought one even though I don't have the gun...yet)...but nope, it was just a teaser with the mags - no ETA on the guns.

this is funny. it's like a seal asking the sharks if the water is ok for swimming. they're not 'in fashion'? more like they are no longer available new and difficult to find used. people posting links to stores that haven't had them in stock since well before the the oic at pre-oic prices? sl8's are currently selling for well over their initial sale price, in acr territory. the question is whether the modifications add or detract from the value and whether the rumours of hk reissuing them to the canadian market will reduce the price (probably not until when/if they do make it here).

check the ee; nothing hk under $3k. prices don't seem to vary much between modified/unmodified (equal number of arrivers and drivers on this forum i guess) so probably better off returning it to stock and selling the go-fast bits separately.

Thanks all for your inputs, it's much appreciated.

All in all, I ended up making a trade with my LGS for 4k in store credit, very happy with my outcome as it allowed me to more or less put together the ideal rimfire setup that I wanted without breaking the bank. The store owner was happy because he sold it in less time it took to write up my receipt so it was win-win for everyone.

For the detractors, I guess this goes to show that prices and demand are changing. The OIC effect is real and well, I think this means we can expect prices to jump in the future as demand begins to exceed supply for certain makes/models.

At least that's my $.02

Cheers,

~ Teller
