Modified Zastava gun stocks?

The wood in those early stocks will suck up stain or any other type of finish you feel like putting on them.

That wood is light and very porous, IMHO not very suitable for the purpose, but I'm a snob about such things.

With the right kind of finish, they can be made very presentable but the only REAL option is to get a decent LAMINATE from Boyd's.

they can be sanded down to a manageable size, with no problem.

You're right, I was off topic.

They can be sanded down, which will remove all of the checkering and IMHO weaken the stock substantially, especially at the wrist.

The wood in those stocks is OK but it isn't great and I have a couple on hand with cracked wrists and receiver beds, that haven't been modified for smaller hands.

I second the purchase of a decent Boyds laminate stock and to tuck the factory stock away unmodified. Well worth the investment. Many different colour and configuration options.
