Hello:
Is there someone in Canada that can reduce the leade diameter of a .338LM reamer? Ours is wide at about .3341" and it should ideally be .3385"
Regards,
Peter
I have stoned reamers to reduce dimensions and have a pretty good system for doing so. Nonetheless, my preference is to simply remove the throat and throat separately. One caveat is that one must use a spiral fluted reamer to throat a five groove barrel ( I dislike 5 groove barrels, by the way). Otherwise the reamer is deflected by the lands. A very close fitting pilot helps.
Yup, you get chatter marks if you don't use a spiral throater. I've had the same issue with six groove barrels as well.
I have never had any problem except with five groove barrels. All other configurations offer enough support on opposing cutting edges to keep the reamer from jumping back and forth.
