I have a Bell Carlson tactical XCR stock and am considering building a rifle using a Rem factory DM action.

Has anyone modified either a factory Rem or after market 700 stock from BDL configuration to factory Rem DM?

It looks like it would just be hogging out the bottom of the mag well to accomodate the DM metal but is there other interferance I can expect to run into?

If the extra inletting is pretty straightforward I will prolly do this as I would like a DM in this rifle project....but if there is too much buthery involved I will prolly pass ....I'm not much of a stock craftsman....as attested by a couple other runs at this sort of thing..

I do NOT want to go the route of an aftermarket magazine conversion like AICS or the other versions..... before eall the suggestions to do that flood in Thanks.

I did it on a HS Precision stock that I got cheap. Not sure if there will be any difference on a B&C. It was simply a matter of filing out where the catches for the mag release are.

Thats what I'm lookng to hear.....

This should make returning to a BDL setup no issue either except for the appearance of the lil cutouts??

You should be fine, I've done three 700 SA stocks now for DM's using a dremel and a file, the toughest part is making the cutouts look really pretty afterwards

Look at kwik clip instead. I personally have had no problems with this system. The upside of the magazine is that it is centre line feed vs the off set of the factory DM.

I'm in process of this exact project as we speak to an HS 700P stock I picked up off the EE. Dremel to open up to accommodate mag release, file the corners nice and round with a rat tail and dress with sand paper is done. Carefully use the DM bottom metal as your guide.

Now I'm sanding, filling nicks from previous impacts and removing textured paint. Fresh paint, clear coat, wet sand and polish to complete. Voila!

I should clarify, the 700P stock wasn't BDL but a mag setup originally, just not Factory Rem DM.

I do that mod all the time for people. Like was said it isn't very hard the only problem you will have is matching the paint. I personally don't like the clips the double latch is not a smooth set up. I would recommend saving your money and get a HS bottom metal very nice sleak product.
