Modifying an older BT-99 for chokes

I have an older model BT-99 with a 30" barrel and a full choke. I'm thinking about having it modified to accept removable chokes.
Is there anyone in Ontario/Canada that does this?
Has anyone done this before on a BT-99 and were the results worth the cost?
What is the cost/estimate?
Does it change the balance/handling of the gun?
Your opinions and comments please.

I assume your shooting trap with this gun. If I shot trap with a single barreled gun full choke is what I would want. Not sure if any advantage, in having tubes would be worth the cost??
 
You may want to pattern it first to see what you have. Sometimes a longer tapered choked barrel will pattern better than aftermarket tubes. You could also get the choke measured to know what constriction it currently is. Improved Mod. is a pretty good all around trap choke and you could get the choke opened if too tight for what you want for a lot less than tubes installed.
 
I agree with those who feel that screw in chokes are not the way to go with this 30 inch barrel gun.
I would shoot it as is or have it opened up if it really is too tight, for likely $ 60 to $ 75.
Spending more than that is probably not a good idea as a BT 99 with only 30 inch barrels will be difficult to sell anyway.

A BT 99 is a great gun, but most trapshooters prefer BT 99 type guns with 34 inch barrels or 32 inch as a minimum........30 inch barreled BT 99 guns will usually sell at lower values than longer barreled versions.

After you shoot this one for a while, I am pretty sure you will be looking for a longer barreled version.
 
I agree with the other posts that recommend keeping the gun as is. If trapshooting is your game, the full choke is what you will want. I also agree that often times longer tapered choke barrels pattern better then a barrel with tubes. Either way, if you decide on having tubes installed, Stephen Milton at Precision Arms (King City) does this kind of work. However, I have heard that sometimes the turn around time to get the work done can be long. I havent had this experience though.
 
I guess the question I would have is why? A single shot isn't very useful for other clay games. Is it for hunting? For the cost it may be better to just get an 870 for hunting and leave the bt-99 as is. Full won't hurt you on a trap field as you are probably aware.

Can't say I've ever seen a BT 99 in the field...

To the Op pattern it and see where your at. If it's to tight have a "good" Smith open it op. But ae others have said you will eventually want a longer barreled Gun.

Just going by the OP's handle... Anyway, imho a BT99 is a singles trap gun. Specialized for that purpose and pretty much useless for everything else. Not sure why you would want a trap gun with opened chokes.
