Hey guys I have been doing some work to my M305 (just painting which I totally effed up but I will learn from my mistakes) I was thinking about screwing a picatinny rail right onto my stock has anyone done this? is it a good idea or is it stupid?

Just screwed one on the bottom of mine a few days ago, works great. I suggest some Loctite on the threads just to be safe. And make sure any screws/bolts/etc... you use to mount it don't get in the way of anything.

Question, when adding a rail to the bottom of these stocks where should it be placed ? Toward the front of the stock or closer to the mag well ?

normaly towards the front right against the mag well is a weird place to put a rail but it works.

What are you going to be mounting on the rail? I'd put it closer to the front for a bi-pod or flashlight. If you want to add a vertical fore-grip put it where it feels most comfortable to you.

Sorry I didn't mention the bi pod part. I was asking cause up front by the sling mount is where you usually see bi pods but would there be a POI issue with a standard contour barrel. This is why I asked about mounting a rail/bi pod towards the mag well where barrel meets receiver or somewhere in the middle.

The most important part is to make sure it's true with the bore, not pointed to the left or right.

I screwed in one screw medium tight, so I could still wiggle the rail. Then I moved it left and right until it felt straight, then used a punch to make a "dent" where I then drilled the hole.

It seemed to work pretty good.
