Modifying pistol mags to work in rifles

I usually spend much of my time in the MBR and EE sections of the forum, so I was surprised to read about CSC 's adaptor for the Swiss Arms series of rifles to take 10 round LAR mags. The only catch being the AR mag must be modified by having a groove cut into it, presumably for the mag release.

Given the lively debate in the past here in the MBR section on the AIA mags and the importance of the lack of that little hole in the front of that mag, I was surprised that people there and the CSC are completely in favour of modding the LAR mag to work in the Swiss Arms rifle.

Like I said, it's all news to me. Any thoughts from other CGNers?

EDIT: here's the CSC thread: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/771444-Use-10rd-mags-in-Swiss-Arms-rifles

I'm pretty sure modifying a mag that holds more than 5 rounds to work in a rifle makes the mag a prohibited device.

I am surprised to hear that as well. If the mag is modified to fit in the rifle in any way it would need to be pinned to five or it is prohibited.

Post #4 of the linked thread seems to cover this fairly already.
It hold the legal amount for the firearm it was designed for and seeing how there doesn't appear to be any law prohibiting modification of magazines it shouldn't to be an issue.. in theory.

Interesting.
A magazine was designed and manufactured as a 10 round pistol magazine.
It was subsequently redesigned and remanufactured to function in a rifle.

Depends how loosely you define remanufactured I guess. I have no experience with these but judging from the pic the modification is only a slight groove cut into the spine.
Personally I wouldn't have anything to do with them myself just in case though..

The intent of the modification is to make the magazine function in a rifle.
Would that not make it into a rifle magazine?

That would be my thought.

Interesting how the MBR crowd seems to have come to a different consensus than the Black Rifle crowd.

I'm in both the MBR and BR crowd.

But first and foremost, I'm in the "I have a wife and kid to feed and bills to pay, which would be hard from prison" crowd.

The shenanigans around LAR, Beowulf, and AIA mags is one thing. But taking it a step further and modifying a mag on your own to make it work in a rifle??? Yah, not interested. It strikes me as a way to garner some really expensive legal bills, at the very least.
