If you're doing some research, just make sure you write the name MOSIN-NAGANT and not MOISIN. It helps on the automated searches.
Now, for the milsurp sites you can always get all the info you want there

As for scoping, "drill and tap" jobs and any other alterations to a milsurp, I fear I cannnot answer you, being of the "leave'em alone" bunch... too many rare pieces have been lost to Bubba.
Which doesn't say that one cannot convert an already tampered with rifle to change it in a good and cheap deer rifle.

The Mosin are very reliable and accurates rifles. I think they are underrated rifles. Their actions may not be smooth as Mauser or Lee Enfield but they are strong and with good+ barrel, they are very accurate. If you consider scoping a Mosin, there's repro sniper M91/30 available and they are very well done too, somes might say that they are too expensive but in my opinion, well worth the money and better than buying a rifle,a repro scope with mount,bend bolt and the installation. Like said before, you will find bunch of info in the milsurp forum.

I went hunting most of the fall with mine. It shoots well, action is smooth, and has a bullet with a good punch. Lots of good commercial ammo available as well as random surplus supplies. You can get a pretty good shooting rifle for a few hundred bucks, if you want scope, you pay more.

There are some actually decent ones out there, and some not so much. The broad range is pretty big for both accuracy and error depending on which one you get. Then again they also run from about $150 and up, you get what you pay for. Sometimes you can luck out and get one that shoots really good groups, others will just hit somewhere on paper at 100m. BUT there is something about holding these Mosin Nagant bolt guns that feel just so right and beautiful. At times you'll hate them.. but once you pick it up and cycle the action a few times, and will be blown away again haha. Plus it's the definition of a man's rifle, huge 7.62x54r caliber that can penetrate through a railway track, 1/2 inch of solid steel, has a huge bayonet spike for those sticky situations etc etc AND what other gun can you say shoots visible fireballs about 2-4 feet from the muzzle and very possibly be the LOUDEST gun on the range! All for around 200 bucks give or take that turns heads. I think I'm going to go hold my Mosin right now..

if you get a good one with no problems .......you will be happy they kinda grow on you ........ammo can be a problem if you dont reload .
Dammit, I forgot to mention that Mosins are really cuddly, too.
If you are going to hack up a Mosin Nagant, PLEASE be sure you aren't ruining a rare variant. Among all my old beaters, there sat (no pun intended) an extremely rare SAT barreled Finn. I had no idea about this rifle until I posted a pic on one of the Mosin sites. It brought on quite a $h!t storm of interest. Be sure to take the receiver out of the stock and check for manufacturer and date.Or... buy one that is already buggered up.....

Sometimes the latter turns up at gun shows priced as a normal PU sniper, which is about half its actual market value ...
So, learn those markings so you know what to look for when picking one up for inspection.
