Have a chance to buy a nagant in "mint" condition, its the real deal Ive seen the markings. What should I offer for it. He wants about $250 which sounds alot but its in such great shape all original! I love these guns but I would like some advice from the "experts here" (ha,ha). Thanks!!!:D

If it doesn't have the giant Century billboard mark, I'd say he's not totally out to lunch. Offer $200 and go from there. With the Century mark, I'd say about $150, which IIRC is what SIR is selling them for (could be wrong, haven't paid much attention as I already have them without it).

Jean Plamondon is selling them for $200, with the billboard Century import mark. I wouldn't go to $250 unless it didn't have the mark.

Prices are going up on nagants, but not that much. I have a few and none have the century import marks. Prices should be in the range of $100 - $200

Private sales are always cheaper as there is no dealer markup

Can you be a bit more specific about the model or the markings?
Does it have a curved ladder rear sight? what kind of front sight? any dates on the barrel root? any SA stamp on the left side of the barrel root? Is the front end of the barrel stepped or straight?
Any pics?:)

Theyre hideous. I wonder if you could buff them off and cold blue over the results? Who refinished the Mosins SIR has? Private and recent, or arsenal done before storage by the commies decades ago?

I have heard that marking can be silver soldered (filled in), buffed, and finished

Depending on the overall condition of the gun its your decision wether its worth it to completely refinish or live with the nasty import marks

This method can also be used to fill in pitting ( I heard...from a friend of a friend who knew a guy who did it)

Mig

A tig/mig welder with the appropriate wire (soft steel) can be used to fill the rust holes but the metal has to be cleaned of any rust first with muriatic acid and a stainless brush. The welder has to watch not to heat the surrounding metal too much to avoid warping it.
Then the welded spots have to be ground or filed level with the surrounding metal and the finished job blued. This is where choice of an appropriate steel grade pays off.
