Molly'd bullets through AR?

I've recently acquired a substantial amount of .224 match bullets.:dancingbanana: Problem is, they are moly'd:(
Does moly. pose a problem with Autos, and particularly the AR with the gas system, like gumming it up at all?
If ok to fire, should I be dedicating a barrel for this stuff? I'm not likely wanting to go back and forth between moly'd and un-moly'd with the cleaning required.

If It makes sense to take off the moly, is it a simple matter of running them through the tumbler?
 
Would you take the cork out of fine wine and replace it with a plastic stopper? Why worry about moly on small calibre bullets? The moly is a clay-type material that is embedded onto the copper jacketing to reduce friction and fouling. The very serious shooters have voiced concerns about moisture encouraging properties and false confidence in cleanliness leading to poor cleaning rituals.

Your AR gas system is a hole in the bore and a hollow tube. The end of the tube is a key on the bolt carrier. The heat from the gases will spit out any unwanted particles, regardless of moly coating or not. The system is supposed to be trouble-free and maintenance-free. That said, you've got free bullets - shoot 'em up! And stop worrying.

Moly poses no problem with autos other than you will need to rezero AND you will need to experiment with your handloads a bit.Moly is slippery therefore you will get higher velocities with the same charge then when you shoot uncoated bullets.This can be good or bad.Another thing to think about when reloading with moly is that neck tension needs to be a touch tighter especially with semi autos.There have been a few cases where the round is slammed into the chamber and because they are moly'd, the bullet actually moves from the casing and wedges into the lands and grooves which in turn can cause dangerous pressures.
Other than that I would dedicate a barrel to moly.Saves messing around with rezeroing and trying to get all the moly out when done.

Sierra says that moly'd bullets are safe in the AR-15 and its clones, but not recommended in the M-1A (M-14) or M-1 Garand rifle that uses a piston to actuate the bolt. In these latter rifles, the molybdenum disulfide coating on the bullets can negatively affect the way the gas systems function.
 
Never had any problems or signs of problems in my semis shooting moly. Won all of my DCRA Service (NSCC/CFSAC) medals with moly'ed 69 grainers shooting out of my Olympic Arms 20" HBAR. yeeeeha... Go for it.... Just squirted brake cleaner down the gas tube every time I cleaned the rifle.

According to recent studies, a screw cap keeps the wine in better shape, with the synthetic corks coming in second and natural cork in third...

I'd expect to see more and more screw caps used as the prejudice against them slowly wanes....:)

I'll be dedicating a Colt 1:7 for the moly.:dancingbanana: maybe the 69smks will fair a bit better at the 500m mound with the extra omph!
For all the whinos, Once the bottle is cracked, who re-corks wine?:bsFlag: ;)
