MONSTER 600 LB Black Bear

Doesn't mean to rain the parade.....but what a waste of beautiful animal. I don't feel so proud as a human now after watching the video.

"You are not shooting to kill. You are shooting to make immortal the the thing you shoot. To kill just anything is a sin. To kill something that will be dead soon, but is so fine as to give you pleasure for years, is wonderful. Everything dies. You only hasten the process."

Harry Selby, quoted by Robert Ruark, Horn of the Hunter.

I read the 1st page and saw the bear and congrats to your buddy. Seeing this last page I can imagine this thread went to the crapper ... sorry to read that! CONGRATS on your buddy's bear again as it's a big'un!

I ran into MB at the golf course today and asked him how bear hunting was going. He connected on another monster; 7'7", 575lbs, certified weight.

He spent 14 days on the bait, feeding something like 40 bears and just taking videos. No expectations; wasn't really interested in shooting a bear. He had never seen the bear that he shot; no trail cam pics or anything. It showed up with a big sow and he had no choice. He showed me a pic; it's very big. I hope to get pics from him that I can share.

Ooops... double post. My bad!!

Where do you think the arrow passed through to kill him that fast? Only 75 meters, and bears run pretty fast so it didnt take long for him to drop, must have hit a pretty serious organ or directly in the heart. Maybe a hunter can chime in as I am not one and do not know?

Heart shot animals can go a long way... a double lung shot animal goes down FAST... no air, no legs.

Beauty bear. Had one just a tad bigger try and make off with a quarter of caribou when hunting in Central Newfoundland a few years back. Not fun when your rifle is locked away and all you have on hand is a rusty machete. It doesn't help that I was only wearing flip flops and jammer shorts at the time. Alas, no tags. A local trapper ended up harvesting him the next day. He ended up just a few pounds shy of 700lbs! He showed me pics of even bigger bruins he'd taken over the years. Gotta love the Rock! Endless food supply, hardly any encroachment on traditional wilderness areas, no natural predators and little hunting pressure. All contribute to creating monster bears.

I have taken a dozen over 400 and two over 500 (all "spring" bow harvests)... so I KNOW those two are whoppers... X-Man, you have to add 25% (on average) to a spring bears weight to compare it to a fall bear.
