Montana deer decoys

I have used a montana decoy. They are light and simple to use but way over priced for what they are. I have had a buck sneek right up to one. He stood right under my stand and approached the decoy like a cat stalking a bird. Another time I had it set up on a field edge while I rattled. A buck came out to have a look but did not stick around long. ( Many other factors could of been in play) It was fun to watch.

I have not seen the Renzo decoys but from what I have read they are cheaper and probably just as good. IMHO I really feel that for the limited number of situations where they might work save your money. We have also used a cow elk decoy and I think it works better for elk during the rut than the deer decoy works for deer.

A decoy has its uses but it is definitely not some kind of wonderful animal magnet like the companies like to make you think. If the situation allowed I would rather get a 3-d deer target and use it like a decoy. You'd get the same results as the Monatana but you would have something to do if the action was slow

I have the whitetailed buck that pops up. You gotta bring a small hammer to get the pegs into frozen ground. It looks incredible! I've even had my ticker jump after sitting in a blind for an hour and scan the field and see it there. I have set it up at 250-300 yards from my position as a rule. Easy shot with the 300 Ultra from a good rest in the blind. If it's extremely windy it goes up at 200 yards max. With all that said I've never had a deer walk out to it! But everytime I pop it up by the farm to look like it's just exiting the bush the boys and me get some good laughs from the road hunters reactions. Because it's less than 100 yards from the house and shop with clear views from both to the decoy. Bored country boys on a slow hunting day need distractions! Forgot to mention that the decoy looks like a real "Kahuna" (my usual description of a trophy buck since I was about 17) from about 100 yards! We've seen road hunters almost hit the ditch trying to stop.

Note, if you saw the setup you would realize it's done so there's no way anyone is gonna shoot at it. The decoy looks like it's in the yard from both directions.
