Montana Rifle Company...

Hi, I hope you don't mind if I add my 2 cents.

I started this thread looking for your 2 cents, I'm happy to hear it. :p
I see on their website they are showing complete rifles, Timberline, Alpine etc. But I am guessing there are few of them currently in circulation to get much feedback on them. It's nice to hear you get a good Vibe from the place. The Riflesinc. Lightweight 70 is starting to look more appealing.

Is Rifles Inc, Lex Webernick? If so, I have seen some and they are nice. He and Melvin Forbes have done a lot for the hunting rifle world.

However, I do want you to talk to Corlane (Rocky Mountain Rifles) in Dawson Creek. Their stuff is world class.

I had a chance to talk with Melvin on two occasions, and he is class act all the way. He spent the time to give me the complete low-down on all his rifle and action models even though I was not specifically looking for an ultra light. As a result, I am now continuously contemplating ordering one...

Re: Montana barrels. I do not own any of their actions but have 4 of their barrels, 3 in chrome-moly, one in stainless. 22-250, 284 Win., 308 Palma, and 338 Federal (as of yet unfired) I also own barrels by Krieger, Ron Smith, Douglas, Shilen, and some assorted others. All the barrels shoot very accurately and I can't tell the difference my abilities run about 1/2 MOA on a good day and they will all do that. A buddy once shot a 5 shot "cloverleaf" with the 284 at 100 yards. Unless you are at the national champion level with a room full of trophy's, I doubt any of us could tell the difference between the above mentioned barrels in a "blind taste test." Chambering, bedding, load development are are are all much greater issues than barrel brand. One thing that I have noticed is that the 3 Montana's not prone to fouling and clean up easily.

I also believe that I saw the rifle that Guntech is referring to. If it is the same one, the issue wasn't the barrel, but the bodger of an amateur gunsmith that had been messing around with it!

With importation of barrels being so challenging these days, if you see a barrel with the contour and caliber you want, snap it up while you can. If it is a Montana, you won't be sorry you did.

Cheers sportingrifle.
