Moon Clip Loading Tool

I think those are actually really handy, the problem is that the device for loading the moon clip loading tool is kind of fiddly and hard to track down.

And the machine that loads it is really expensive.

Thankfully, the equipment that you need to load the machine that loads the device is usually pretty reliable.

But don't even get me started on the system that loads the equipment that loads the machine that loads the device.

It's this ridiculous Rube Goldberg thing. You wouldn't believe it.

I am in the same situation and am looking for a loader for my new S&W 929. You can load them by rolling them onto the round on the bench but it takes a lot of pressure to push the rounds in. My clips are new not sure if they break in with use?? Asume so but I think I will try one of the TK loaders. They make the moon clips for S&W that are shipped with the gun

not hard to find or fiddly, tk customs is well machined out of aluminium cost 50 bucks US and will ship to your door. its all you need to load moon clips.

To the OP I also suggest getting a de-mooning tool, its pretty much a screwdriver that is a pipe with about 3/16 of an inch machined off of half of the end. It is made for removing brass from a moonclip.

bob### I ordered from tk customs because they made the 8 shot clips for my 929, they make two different inside diameters of clip for different brand ammo. I ordered both , highly recommend the mooning tool if you get the tighter inside diameter ones

This company has them and will ship to Canada as well. You should have a look at these moon clip checkers too. I just bought one for my S&W 625. A couple of bent moon clips cost me ~20 seconds on a stage in the last club match. Will use it to check the moon clips as I load them prior to a match, and then just before I put the loaded moon clips on my belt prior to a stage.

Does anyone have a Canadian source for a .45 ACP moon clip loading tool.

Thanks

yes

Biggest issue is unloading the spent rounds from the moon clips. Basically a hollow tube of the correct size with a 1/2 protruding lip works. I got mine off flee bay I think and picked up in the USA. This is similar to mine:

I watched some u tube cuts on the BMT Mooner last night, they look very interesting as well. They remove unfired rounds from a full moon clip but didn't see empty/fired cases being removed. Anyone have experiance with the BMT tool and does it work good to remove the fired rounds??

All I use. Consider it the best moon clip loading/unloading tool ever invented, it's pure genius.
Yes, it will load/unload rounds. Flip the top of the tool upside down and turn, less than a second, they're out.

Still waiting for a reply email back from BMT for a shipping cost. I was reading on another site yesterday and like a guy said when you spend +-1500 on the gun +-100 isnt bad for a tool that will make using it a lot mor enjoyable

Not a Canadian source but they do ship to Canada : BMT Mooner. Works great for loading and unloading.

A friend who just bought a S&W 929 got this unit and it is both fast and easy for both loading and un-loading his 8 shot moon clips. I would highly recommend this to everyone!
