So I bought a S & W 1917 Yesterday managed to pick it up today... Called the CFO in the morning yep all done I was like great went to the shop no paper work no problem make a call... Get the rudest CFO I ever met... Makes the Quebec ones look nice... (If you dealt with Quebec you know ;)) So after a min telling the lady to just give me the transfer reference number so I can speak with the bc cfo I basically get told you have to do a short term separately I was like doest mater I got a long term that covers gunsmith... ie the store is also a gunsmith and under that it would cover.. no it doesn’t sir fine what ever just transfer the call.. Got the BC CFO got my transfer paper work in about 3-5mins.. took the gun home grabbed some targets went to the range loaded the moon clips fired away then tried to unload the moon clips.. And so far I still haven’t mange to unload them. I went fine Ill look at the manual for the firearm... ok there is none... so I was like thats odd no manual for a S & W so I had to end the day at the range after only shooting 5 moon clips and I brough 2 boxs to shoot through :HR:

So does anyone know if there is some tool that is supposed to come with the gun or a way to unload the moon clips?

Loading is easy they just click in... Unloading on the other hand... :HR:

O yah on the website from the place I bought it from the price lower then the price I paid.. not a big deal but still didn’t add any fun to the day.. sale was 1,188.99 I ended up paying 1,299

well take you're receipt in i'm sure they're refund you the differance. also as far as I know they should just pop right out. I've only ued them once on some else gun and they just popped out... sorry i can't be of much more help for ya. and you so need the stupid STATT i dont' know why stupid beurocracy.... at least i've needed one whenever i picked up a gun. then again in AB it only take 15 minutes on hold 30 seconds talking with them and they faxed it right over so no real wait.

But if you read the busniess lience it says they are a gunsmith.. if you read my ATT it says to and FROM a gunsmith... if they weren't a gunsmith then ya I would need it but what company doesnt have gunsmithing on with the rest of the stuff :p

Look on the brownell web site for moon cllip unloaders or search around here, there's been a few folk post home made tools for unloading that work very well too

If you have a spare 1911 barrel you could use it to get the brass out of the clips. Yeah, they go in easy with finger pressure, but not in reverse as you've found out. I've heard you can make your own tool with a short piece of 1/2" copper water pipe. You just need something to that the brass case can slip into that provides you some leverage to pop the brass out of the clip. The deep socket idea sounds like it might work, too.

On the CFC thing, yeah my BC issued LT-ATT says the same thing about "too & from gunsmith" but the BC CPFO will email [or fax] a ST-ATT within minutes so I just go with that, too. I think they just like to have a papertrail with each individual gun. Red tape BS, I know.

IMHO, if one has a valid R-PAL and is a member in good standing of an approved club then both a LT-ATT and ST-ATT should be attached, as a condition, to the R-PAL. You have a valid R-PAL, then you can go home with your new purchase as soon as the transfer is approved. Simple.

They do the short term and transfer at the sametime.. the other CFO for some reason dont know that :p

Hmmm... the couple of times I've spoken with the local CFO office I found them (her, actually) quite pleasant. I guess anyone can have a bad day. :(

I don't know if they will sell across the border but there is a mooner/demooner from mooncliptool.com that looks pretty good.

:) Stuart

So how does the gun handle, and how does it group, and is it worth the money?

Handles and shoots really nice.. only problem was the moon clips couldnt unload them at the range.. had no tool had no manual with the gun o well :p

Check out Brownells they offer several demooner tools. You can also get moon clip loaders that work well. I found using brass with the same headstamp for all six cartridges really makes life esier as well.

Take Care
