Moonclips in a GP100

I just bought a GP100 and I wanted to now if I can use moonclips in it without modifications? Anyone have any experience?

begs the question -WHY?- SPEEDLOADERS ARE READILY AVAILBLE, and the star extractor throws all the empties at once-unless you want to shoot 9mm( bad idea in a 357) and want to use it for headspacing the case( you really need a special 9mm cylinder anyway)- and the bore is too big( 355 vs 357- sloppy)
 
Why? What purpose are you thinking about moon clips? For easier loading or for easy extraction?

For loading, just get a $10 speed loader. For extraction, it's not needed on .357M/.38 since the cases are rimmed.

Moon clips are only for semi-auto chambered revolvers like my Taurus .45 ACP or S&W's 625 .45 ACP. There are other models out there that use semi-auto chambers, too.

The clips are so you can extract the rimless (so to speak) cases. The extractor pushes on the clip like it would on a rimmed case. Personally, I can't be bothered trying to load the clips. I just put my .45's in the chambers and then use my cleaning rod or a pencil/pen or a screwdriver to push them out.
 
No, the cylinder would have to be relieved the thickness of the moonclip.

I don't believe that anyone is 'clipping Ruger's nor are 'clips availible for them.

Oh, ok. That answers the question.

Moonclips are a PITA to load. I believe that the HKS speedloader for the S&W 686 is the same for the Ruger GP100. Much easier to load, handle and deal with than moonclips even if you could use them.

You'd have to machine your cylinder and still no guarantee they would not cause trouble. Why ruin a perfectly good gun experimenting when speed loaders are cheap and easy to get on the internet.

They even make pouches specifically for speed loaders for you to use in action sports.
 
believe you're right about the same speedloader for smith/ruger- it's the same when you go to 44 , and the pouches are relatively cheap too- the double was like 11 bucks and fits on the 13/4 belt- uncle mikes- 2 double pouches gives you 24 rounds which is a half box plus the other 6 in the gun- that's 30 rounds
