Moosberg 715, anyone have any comments?

I would say COOL tactical look. Why not good? Cleaning sucks. A fellow club member has one, and he swears... disassembly and cleaning sucks. Value for money - not bad. Accuracy - good. Just be patient when its time to clean. I have a R597. With the original stock, 2 screws and a pin and cleaning is a breeze. With Archangel 556 stock, 4 screws and a pin.

I took mine out today, put about 200 rounds through it. took forever to get the iron sights shooting where i wanted it to but its about there now. I would say i average about 1 or 2 jams per 50 rounds. not terrible, easy to get shooting again. i was using cheap winchester hollow points. not looking forward to cleaning, but a fun gun to shoot.

Has anyone tried the Tasco red dot they sell at Canadian Tire for $49.99
I heard it was great for the 715T

I am going fishing for the upcoming long weekend on Friday, I am going to bring the 715T and give it a work out, I have only shot 20 rounds through it, as it was jamming(Winchester bulk) on the first pull of the bolt... I did the magazine fix too with the super glue thing, its sitting in my safe with 25 rounds in it for the last 4 days hopfully that should help. I am going to buy a few hundred rounds of CCI Mini Mag, from Dante hardware in Montreal, they always have everything i need... as CCI Mini Mag is hard to find around Montreal!

Any other suggestions about this 715 before I take it out to the bush?

Thanks

Just took mine apart to clean it for the first time. Not hard...but very annoying. I have removed the side rails...as they serve no function for me, and they allow better grip for my liking. One thing that happened...was the rear allen nut (inside...secures receiver to the shell) came loose. It was banging around inside. That would mess with accuracy a tiny bit...lol. It would be great to see an aftermarket kit that makes it similiar to mp5
..etc...aftermarket barrels..etc.

Wow, nice Canadian Tires on the island of Montreal carry no firearms or ammo at all. Even off island its hard to find any Canadian tire that has ammo or firearms.. Can you see the Mossberg on the Canadian Tire website, just curious to know how much it is.

I just bought 300 rounds of CCI Mini Mag yesterday, so I will let you know on Tuesday after my long weekend of fishing if the ammo makes a difference.
:)

I doubt its on the website. I think it was $329. I'll double check next time im in town

Mine thinks it's a machine gun, it's the carry-handle version. Slam-fires 4-5 rounds rapidly when I use normal velocity Federal 525 bulk rounds. Cycles flawlessly with subsonic for some reason though.
I've tried stripping it and thoroughly cleaning it to no avail. Contacted Mossberg, it's under warranty, just have to find a box to ship it in. Wish I didn't have to though, 6-8 weeks with no .22lr sucks.

Mine is out for warranty repair... Super jams every 6 rounds so bad that you can only clear it with a cleaning rod I caved and bought a SR22 ... Tasco red dot is okay from crappy tire the dot is a little big & spiderweb ish. They show a browning reflex sight on the Canadian Tire website for a few dollars more.

Happy hunting

I like mine...but to be honest...it is a mossberg plinkster reciever, barrel and a cheapo plastic stock....hardly worth $300....the plastic shell costs less to manufacter than the mags.

I bought one for my nephew to use this summer when he comes to stay and it has been sitting in the safe for about a month. After a little internet surfing last night i have seen what some have done to theirs i went through my parts bins and came up with a few things for the 715T.

It's what the market will pay. I needed one of these for my work http://www.amazon.com/MSDCCSG-Digital-ColorChecker-Imaging-Accessory/dp/B000X9H7HW It's an 8x10" piece of plastic with some paint splotches (admittedly very accurate color)...but $260!!
But it makes my job a hell of a lot easier (reproducing artwork).
Same with the Mossberg. I've had mine over a year, about 5K rounds through it with no more than maybe 25 failures of any kind (I seem to be one of the lucky ones).
I wanted it for plinking and my kids like the 'cool' factor.
A steal at $300 IMO

I just finally got mine out to the range to give it a shot with some old ammo. I was stacking the magazine full to 25 rounds at a time. I put about 200 rounds through and had one failure to feed. I didn't have any particular target I was shooting at. Just a rock on the berm at 100m so I can't speak to accuracy. Before taking it out, I gave it a good run through with a solvent, then lubed the bolt and barrel with G96. I look forward to doing some more plinking with it and getting it somewhat accessorized. Looking to replace the sights with something else. Haven't quite decided what yet.

I had a flat top that I put about 1000 rounds into and didn't have too many problems. A few jams from using garbage ammo and a wobbly magazine but otherwise a fun gun.

I was shooting american eagle and after about 500 rounds the muzzle brake had about a 1/4 inch of build up I had to spend 10 minutes scrubbing out. I switched to federal bulk ammo and didn't see anymore issues after that.

Once you clean it a few times you can take it take it apart, clean it, and put it back together pretty quickly.

Regardless, it is still a pain to take it apart and clean it up compared to the Ruger 10/22. That would probably be my biggest gripe. It would also be nice if there was a way to lock the bolt back without having the magazine in. At least this would make it easy to run a bore snake through without having to tear the rifle down.

i have about 2000 rounds through my 715T and i'm pretty happy with it, i just do a basic bore punch and clean it with a pick and spray the chamber out and totally pull it apart every 1000 rounds or so, no issues to date! i do find that the Winchester cheap ammo is garbage, constant misfires and jams, but there M22 stuff is good and a smoking deal, $50 for 1000 rounds at Cambodia tire. well worth the $289 i spent on it, way to much fun to have when camping and gets lots of attention.

I have an "at home" only cleaning kit for cleaning it, i can disassemble, clean, re assemble in about an hour while i am catching up on my youtube videos.

and yes, you can lock the bolt back my pushing in the charging handle when the bolt is open, let it go slowly and you will feel it catch, only crappy part is it likes to slam forward when putting a rod through it, so i tie it back or use a zip tie when field cleaning.
