CUT! :dancingbanana:

Jumped this humongous dry cow at 50m today while looking for grouse. Good thing I packed the 270 :D One round to the back of the head, dead before she hit the ground. Before you go all ethics police on me, it was the only shot I had, at a distance of only 50m, with a gun that will punch 1/2" groups at 100m all day long. Know your weapon, it's capabilites, and your own.
150gr hornady interlock from a Tikka T3 Lite Stainless travelling at approx 2900fps. Never seen a moose hit the ground that fast. Who needs a magnum?

Well, your probably going to get hammered for the head shot comment, but good work either way

Probably, and I do not advocate head shots. Especially on moose. But when you've got a clean lane, an accurate rifle and confidence in your ability to hit what you shoot at, you can make a shot like that. Any further away and it would have been a different story.

No problems with the head shot(as long as it is standing still and not running)....just don't like the .270 as a Moose cartridge.

I took a BIG bull 6 years ago with a head shot between the eyes @ 60 yards.

Rifle was a 444 Marlin with 300gr HOT handloads.

That Moose dropped in his tracks also. No bloodshot/wasted meat or messy clean-up.

What is wrong with a head shot,,, it's the best kill if you got the shot. Good on ya..., also nothing wrong with a 270 on Moose, it's a capable moose cartridge.

Nice :D

I like head shots! If you can make em accurately it's the best way to get the most meat out of your animal.

Erg, a .270 will kill a moose just as dead a .300 win mag etc. I don't know why people insist on hunting with mobile artillery. I don't think I've ever seen an animal stop a bullet. I've been hunting for 3 years and every animal I have seen shot has a hole in both sides of it.

Went out Moose hunting this morning and didn't see a damn thing.... Nothing! There was a full moon last night and it was a bit windy today so that may have been keepin' um bedded down.

Moose aren't as tough as people think they are. Shoot em in the chest and they die. Shoot em in the back of the head and they die, impressively :D

You'd look pretty funny standing there with your Marlin looking at Mr. Moose @ 250yds. :)

I'd take 270 over a 444 any day, esp when the shots go past 150yds.

I took the mobile artillery moose hunting this year in the form of a 375/338. The moose I shot stopped two Nosler 260gr ABs w/o a pass through.

A 270 with 150gr TSX might have done better.

The meat tastes just as good no matter who ridicules you. Actually if its the right ones it sometimes tastes better. Beauty of a cow:)

He was back in a swamp 1000 yards away. I called him into 60 yards. He raked a tree and then stared directly at me. I shot him right between the eyes.

If the animal is too far away...you get closer....or bring him closer.

That is hunting...(NOT SHOOTING)

Well, based on that you should bring them in close enough to use a long bow or speer. Then you'd REALLY be hunting, not shooting. ;)

I'm guessing you don't like the advantage a good scope gives you as well. :p
