Moose and Elk

I agree that moose have less will to live than the typical elk. I have seen moose take lead on occasion, and I have seen elk go right down too, but typically, I think elk are somewhat tougher.

1 shot into a moose runs 200 yards 4 shots into an elk run 1000 yards

I've never shot an elk, but I can tell you that a moose that runs 200 yards was not hit right.

I've shot big Yukon/Alaska moose with "little" .270's and .308's, and they tend to go maybe 20 yards unless they were at a dead run and scared when they got hit. Not unusual for them to stagger and go down within a couple of staggering steps. Having hunted moose for 25 years, and been around lots more that were shot, I can say a moose that goes anywhere near 200 yards and is still standing, is often never recovered, as it wasn't hit right in the first place.

Moose dropping quicker...maybe. That doesn't make elk tougher. Hell I think the fact they don't move a step makes them tougher! The sting on the bullet is what makes the elk take off so quick. For moose I don't think they even realize they've been shot half the time. The moose I took this year didn't move very far but he sure didn't react like he had been hit. I knew I had but it took him until he started to do the Texas two-step to know something was wrong. I'm sure that 180gr pill felt like a horsefly bite to him.
And yet the 100lbs blacktail (that I shattered his shoulder, double lunged and took out the top of his heart) ran nearly 75 yards before he piled up. Same rifle although it was a 150gr bullet for the BT but I'm sure the adrenaline reaction was the difference in the one standing there and the other taking off.
I've seen lots of moose that seem to just absorb it and really don't react, I wouldn't equate it to being not as tough. But that just my experience :D
