Hey boys, just got back from Hudson, Ontario. Had a great hunt. Lots of critters, all four seasons in one week of hunting. Took a 40'' bull the first week. Question: I want to put the antlers on my shed what should I treat them with to prevent wear??? Thanks, Campbery

......I treat my antler mounts with hand rubbed tung oil. This is for indoor mounts though. Not sure on the outdoor durability factory though when using tung oil. You may have to retreat them every year or so.

Never have treated them with anything .... they will weather and fade in time but I like that look as well. May want to keep a pellet gun handy ... tree rodents love to chew on antlers.

Exterior-grade Varathane, either gloss (kinda phony looking) or semi-gloss (very natural). If I were putting them outside, I'd probably re-coat every couple of years. Indoors, I have some 20+ year old ones that look like new.

some varnish then coat the antlers in pure linseed oil......let the varnish dry for a few hours first. You will have to do it every year with the varnish but it sure keeps the antlers nice.....i have a moose antler outside my house and it is 9 yrs old and looks like it was shot yesterday.

An very experienced hunter told me to put stain on mine, so I used a brown solid stain. No need to re-apply, but it looks like crap. Don't use stain.
