Exactly. It’s a stupid argument. I put more rounds down my 8lb (scoped) 338 than anything else anymore. Doesn’t seem to be a problem. How old do you have to get before this recoil thing kicks in? I’m 60 and wondering how many good years I’ve got left![]()

I've got a few years on you, and I still pull them out of the safe every year. Not for long bench sessions mind, mostly to just confirm zero and function. But still. - danHow old do you have to get before this recoil thing kicks in? I’m 60 and wondering how many good years I’ve got left![]()
Maxi pads have a peel and stick side, just slap em on the existing butt pad.You are in the era of Starbucks, man bun 6.5 shooters. There is a reason tampons are in men’s washrooms, so the recoil sensitive can stack them under their shirts so they don’t bruise.
Agreed... Recoil issues are largely a mental problem and age has nothing to do with that. A few dozen rounds with a truly heavy recoiling rifle will cure someone's fear of the .338 or .375... in many circles those two are considered light and underpowered, but in the deer woods, people think you are crazy for carrying such a "canon."Exactly. Recoil is mostly in your head.
If it wasn’t, people wouldn’t be able to get used to it. Nobody I know developed a callus, or grew a gristle plate, or got retrofitted with a cast iron shoulder. It’s just that one day they realized that it wasn’t a big deal; or quit thinking about it at all. If the change isn’t physical, mental is about all that’s left.

It more often goes the other way... those fearful of recoil, mock the choices of others who aren't.It’s a dumb argument. Let people shoot what they want without criticism. If you choose a heavy recoil large caliber gun for NA game, go ahead, but don’t rag on people for choosing a smaller caliber because ultimately, they aren’t needed.

More likely a technique and equipment issue. Short eye relief scope, or improper mount. Having said that, I scoped myself once. I was turkey hunting and the gobbler came in from behind and to my right, I slowly twisted my shoulders around to the hard right and lined him up and touched off a 3.5" 2 1/4 ounce of #6 load... immediately saw blue sky, then green trees, then brown dirt, then hazy red... lol. That was a technique/posture issue... good lesson, it healed.... bruised ego, but the bird was down.Well this lady took the recoil to her head.
A .300wm is just a wee bit too much for some.

You are correct. However, the posts that you are referring to are in response to someone that started it by “raging” on those that choose to shoot a bigger calibre that HE prefers. Sadly, the point he was making (that a 30-06 is adequate for anything taken at reasonable ranges in NA) was quite valid. To bad he chose to post it a dickhead insulting fashion. It’s a dumb argument. Ah yes that makes sense. Appreciate the clarification. People are weird. You are correct. It IS pretty funny though that people assume that because someone chooses a 6.5 manbun for their rifle, that they can’t shoot a heavy recoil rifle well…Shhhhhhh, you will hurt feelings of the guys with mangina”s.![]()
That’s what I find as well.It more often goes the other way... those fearful of recoil, mock the choices of others who aren't.
I was sighted in on a mallard flying right over my head, headed behind me. Led him with the muzzle u til I went over backwards, and shot him on the way down. Got the bird. And laughed at by some friends. - danMore likely a technique and equipment issue. Short eye relief scope, or improper mount. Having said that, I scoped myself once. Coming from the fellah that states " Life begins at 40.Recoil begins at"over 40". Coincidence? I dont think so." Hmmm Thats just CRAZYThat’s what I find as well.
