So yesterday afternoon I went and picked up my moose burgers, smokies and sausage. 100 lbs of burgers (400 quarter pounders) 80 lbs of smokies and 80 lbs of sweedish potato sausage.

Piped up the BBQ tonight and we gave them a whirl.

Great job Blackman's !

Do you guys never take steak like cuts and grill those? Or is it just burger and sausage?

This thread just convinced my wife hunting isn't as bad as she thought when she saw the amount of meat you got from that moose.

Stupid question though. What are smokies?

I just got my license in the mail about a month ago so this will be my first year hunting.

Been eating Moose & Elk all winter. The best fare you can get, and I haven't changed my opinion in 53 years of hunting! Eagleye.

X2

We don't even buy meat anymore. Between my Girlfriends tags and my own we get enough meat to feed our extended family and still have 2 freezers full. Last week we made pepperoni and jerky, next weekend I'm stuffing dinner sausage and breakfast sausage.

Yep. Nothing better than wild meat. Spent last year eating moose. This year no draw, but we got 5 deer so we are still eating well. I still remember the tons of steaks we got off of that moose. Sooooooo nice. I really have to work on the taking pictures of stuff, learning to get them on the net and onto here.
We make our own burger, sausage, jerky, and canned meat. We still have one jar of moose left. Saving it for one night when I am REALLY in the mood for a treat. MOOSE STIRFRY!!
The years we are lucky enough to get a moose or an elk, then we use the entire deer for sausage and jerky.

Nice score SH.

Looks good Sealhunter.
My wife was reading over my shoulder and was curious how much it cost to get your moose done up?
A friend of mine down by Vegreville AB paid $800 to get his moose butchered into sausage and burger. I thought that was a little steep.

You know you could of called.
I would of gladly done you a favor, saved you some fuel
and picked that up for you............:)
Dang it, that looks good.

Cost can be more or less depending on the place you take it and how much sausage you get made. IF you just get them to cut and wrap and grind it will be much less. You pay per pound on cut and wrap. I don't know what the current cost per pound is. Probably 60 to 75 cents. Sausage prices vary a lot.

The place where I take my deer is expensive but the best.
4 deer done up into peperoni/garlic sausage will run about $1000 bucks.
In this case it is cheaper to just buy meat but not nearly as good as what this place turns out.

Sausage and pepperettes usually cost more cuz you have to pay for pork or beef fat. Ham are also great way to turn game into tasty dinners.

I pay a premium too. But the CGNers here who have tried the venison and moose (and sometimes goose) sausage that my butcher turns out will understand why.

and this is the reason I make my own stuff.

The pices I pay are extremely reasonable and are a very high quality product from a large butchershop that retails wonderful products.

to have 100lbs of Sausage and Burgers, from 80lbs of deer, costs exactly $104...my buddy just came over with some of his...

I'll post a sheet of the exact costs later today per lb...
