Can someone tell me how this works.... We have 6 guys never been in the moose draw before looking at going to 21b. I'm not sure of our chances of getting a tag.... If one doesnt get selected what do you get? A thanks for your 50 bucks? The guarentee group size for 21b this year is 8 but if i am reading this right it's only for 8 pool 1 guys which we arent.. Any info is appreciated....

You have to have applied and not gotten a tag the previous year to be in pool1, only pool1 applicants get tags in 21b. Best shot would be to all buy licences and apply in hopes of getting tags next year when you apply. A moose licence allows you to hunt calves in 21b.

For the sake of planning, there is an area 99Z you can apply to (I think only in person on a paper application). This guarantees that nobody in your group gets a tag this year that you were not planning on, shooting himself in the foot for next year, but rather will make sure you all have priority for next year.

Even then, area 21b has a minimum guaranteed group size of 8 for both bull and cow. So while your chances will be pretty good with 6 (I'd think), there's even then no guarantee. I guess likely someone in your group has property, and that's why the selection? My group is mobile and goes where the tags are. It makes planning better when you can know long beforehand that you can count on the tag.

well my cousin lives up there so he is organizing it a bit... we wanted to rent a cottage up there and hunt for a week.... when you say go where the tags are how do you figure where the tags are?

get a copy of the Hunting Regulations Summary and look for what areas have the most tags

Have all your guys put in as a group. You don't meet the criteria for a guaranteed tag, but if you don't draw a group tag, you go into the individual draw anyway. Your cousin qualifies for a Northern Resident tag draw as well...

There is no advantage in putting in as individuals, as you miss the group draw that way...

That's wierd, we hunt 21 A, and its 3 for bull and 4 for cow or vice versa, ( if I read it correctly) big difference considering they are side by side.

It says last year in 21B groups of 6 got a bull tag?
