I'm looking to get a moose gun,what caliber is the best for knockdown power?

But that depends how you hunt. If your 200yds or less, then that 300 can ruin a lot of meat. For 200yds and under I'd run a .308 setup. Or 30-06. And get good bullets. Federal trophy is great but expensive

375.....as in 375 H&H that ruger is a pew pew kinda gun.
Depends on where you hunt and the terrain that covers it.
Plenty moose have been shot with a 30-30.

Moose are not that hard to kill so most common rifle calibers will do the job.

Just get one that you can shoot well as shot placement is the most important.

Personally,it's .270Win,30-06SPRG or .45/70Gov depending on area amd terrain. Lot's of Moose have been taken with a 30-30 and even 12ga. 3" mag slug,too.

Take your pick of anything from 7mm to .458... nothing wrong with the old standby, the .30/06.

I have a couple dozen that I could pull for any given hunt, but just picked up a Ruger M77 RS in .35 Whelen, it has been a couple years since I have had a Whelen, but it is one of my historical favorites... I have a fondness for mid-calibers for moose, including .358 Win, .35 Whelen, .350 RM, 9.3X57, 9.3X62 and 9.3X74R.

30 06 180gr does a large amount of damage almost too much . 270 or 7mm08 is plenty .you really don't need a 7mm or 300Wm for hunting moose at 100 yards

Just dont expect them to drop right there, unless they are hit in the brain or spine.
I think 1 minute and 53 seconds is about the correct wait time, regardless of what you poke through the boiler room.

I settled for a .338-06, an in-between of the .30-06 and .35 Whelen.

Go with a 270 or 30/06 due to ease of getting ammo. But if you have ammo available, go with the 35 whelen. Awesome caliber!!!
