So I've been hunting with 2 others guys in pool 1( all applying as individuals for tags ) but now we are looking to invite a few other guys this year and apply as a group..( should improve our chances hopefully )

Problem is the new guys arent in the pools, they bought there first calf tags this year putting them in the draw next year.. So can we still apply as a group this year or how would that work ?!

Someone PLEASE clear this up for me !!

Only the applicants in pool 1 will count in a group application. The 3 of you should still apply as a group. There are now 3 different break-downs for the draw; gauranteed group, which may not apply to you depending on the wmu you're applying for, large group draw, then individual. Even if there's no gauranteed group size, you would still be eligible for the secondary group drawing. Unless you're going waaaay up north, the pool 2 guys won't have a chance at an adult tag.

We are in 41 not superfar by any means !!

So would it be better for us 3 to apply as a group then next year apply as a bigger group with the other 3 guys ?

Are the odds better for us as a group of 3 ?

Look at the hunting summary book for 2013 (on line) since summary books are few and far in stores. Check what the group size is if any for wmu 41 and how many tags are available in pool one for cow or bull this year. The summary book will also tell you how many applied for tags last year in wmu41. We always apply as a group hoping to get one tag so we still have a few names in pool one for the following year. If you apply as individuals this year you may draw 3 tags and have fewer names in pool one the following year. Your chance of winning 649 are greater then getting 3 tags if you apply as individuals or as a group of 3 in most wmu unless you go way up north.

Everyone apply in one group is easier. The new guys have to apply to the draw anyway, not just buy a calf tag...

By not applying as a group, you 3 are missing out on 78% of the tags.

Always apply in a group when possible - as mentioned you have more chances at getting drawn, albeit slim in WMU41. Guaranteed group size this year for bull is 13 and 11 for cow ... we just finished putting in for bull tag with thankfully 13 pool 1 hunters. It's going to be a full camp this year!!
