Moose hunting

sorry guys, but maybe for smaller bulls, calves, cows. The go down easy. Big monster bulls do not go down with a .300mag, let alone a 30-30.

And yes, it is dead after 1 shot, but I dont like my moose dead in the bush 1/2 mile away after I hit it.

Muzzleloader guys drop moose with one shot all the time. Given its a bigger bullet, but your new argument is big moose take more then one shot to drop.

300 posts in one month and by the sounds of things is the moose hunting god of Canada.

For someone that likes to post alot and has such a "my way or the highway" attitude to whoever disagree's with your thoughts the regulars in here are gonna just love you.

I also see you already got an infraction from NAA in your short time here already yet it really doesn't slow you down very much does it?

Calling people liberals on this site isn't the brightest thing in the world. Maybe I should run the I.P., I think Sheephunter changed his name!

Looks like I've got a new pet.

not new argument. That is my argument, that if you hunt big bulls, and most do not apparently, then you require more gun, and that 30-30 is unethical at best. So what do you want to argue about?

fine. Obviously I upset you guys with my knowledge and apparent lack of political correctness, so I will leave it at that. Use your 30-30. I really dont care and I will be 50 miles deeper in the bush then you anyways to have you be any bother to me.

waderow, you know a bullet in the a@@ is a bullet in the a@@. Shoot a moose where it counts and a .30-30 does just fine. It's not a long range boomer by no means, but at 100 or so yards it'll kill even the biggest. It's not my first choice because of it's range limitation. However, in certain types of terrain where shots are closer, it works.

+1

since when did moose become bullet proof ?

my dad and i where talking about this awhile ago , we figured 90% of the moose we have gotten where under 50 yards with 3% or 4 % in the 250-300 yard range .

one of the biggest moose i have taken was in the 900 lb range , gutted , with the head and hide removed ..... did it with a 300 savage , which isn't much bigger than a 30-30 .

Waderow, I bes dat far in da woods I aves to come out to unt.

Ya know what yer problem is me son, ... you're too big a fan of Waderow..

Young fellers like you, (big in da mouth, short between da ears) is a dime a alf dozen...

You and yer big 56 inch spread,... my son da only spread you're gonna see is if someone put's a bit a mayonaise on sammich for ya.. (and yes my son, I meant that's the only spread you'll ever see ;))

Now op back on yer onda trike and run out to da shop, buy a case a beer, ave a few drinks, and smarten yerself up a bit...

you sounds so stunned you could be twins..:)

I could care less what a feller shoots he's moose wit as long he does it umainedlyly,...300 wm,... right on, but to for a feller to say that it takes 4 shots to put one down with a 300 wm and dat a 30/30 in unedicle, well that's just,..hmm..like the kids says,.."Right f**ked up"

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Wait, I gotta catch my breath......

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaa!

I wonder what life was like before there were big magnums? It's a wonder people didn't starve or get trampled by every animal they came across with their pea shooters. All them buffalo's killed at extreme range with the old 45-70 and Sharps rounds must have died of heart attacks too.... :nest:

A 308,30-06, will be more than enough gun for moose. Ammunition is everywhere and priced fair. If you can't kill a moose with those calibres than your in trouble. There is the bigger is better theory but DEAD is still DEAD.

try shooting a big one... and nice spin on putting words in my mouth. I said 2 shots or 3, and ONCE 4. Youre like a liberal

but end of discussion. if you dont know, and dont get into the big bulls, you just dont understand. have fun with your little guys, and I will have fun with my brutes.

Could you post up some pics of those brutes?

I agree with "Icon", save some for the optics, and as for the rifle for the price and capability have a look at the Remington 700. i have the 30-06 and am very pleased. It's a great starter gun and a definite keeper.I would suggest taking the time to feel out the top few that you like and see what fits you best.
Good luck good hunting and don't forget to practice, the last thing you want to do is miss.
Know your rifle.

Remington's 700 series is respectable and is a great starter gun. Reliable, a few options on style, and good re-sale, but you probably wont want to sell it after you tag your Moose. It only took about a box of ammo each at 100,150 and 200 yards to get her sighted in. Hope this helped, don't forget, preference is what will make it your rifle so try as many as you can.
