Hi Everyone,

My husband and I will both be turning 40 next year and also celebrating our 20th anniversary. I would like for us to do something special together to celebrate and would really love to go on a guided moose hunt. We both primarily hunt whitetails and have not done a lot of moose hunting.

I'm doing research now and would like to know if anyone can recommend an outfitter? I'm hoping to go next year, but since I'm going to be doing my Master's ($$$), it may realistically be 2013 before we can go. I am open to both Ontario or other provinces, although Ontario may be a little more affordable since it's where we live.

Thanks for your help,
Rita

The moose hunting is great in northern Alberta; I shot a 52 inch bull this year without any real effort. There are several outfitters in northern Alberta that guide hunters in some great moose country.

Personally I'd recommend Bob Heyde of Homestead Outfitters (Box 97. Grouard Mission, Alberta T0G 1C0, (780) 751-2252. E: bjheyde@telusplanet.net) as he's a great HONEST outfitter and a great all around person. As a general rule, I'm not a big fan of outfitters but Bob is one of the few I hold in high regard.

However, when I think of going on a trip of a lifetime moose hunt with an almost 100% guarantee to shoot a monster bull only two places come to mind... and Alberta isn't one of them. The first is the Yukon but we're talking about a significant amount of cash and that's out of reach of most people's budget.

So, I'm forced to agree with "littlebear" as I think the top destination would be the "Land of the Newfie" ... Newfoundland. Awesome moose populations, beautiful scenery, and if you don't both shoot a monster bull moose it's because you will have passed on too many great bulls.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their replies. It gives me a place to start. This will really be a trip of a lifetime, and what better way to celebrate than to go hunting together!

Cheers,
Rita

Enjoy your trip, were ever you go. But you'll have a great moose hunt on the rock, but i may be a litlle bias.
