Moose in heat scent?

Have any of you used moose luring juice for rut hunting?

I've had "Buck Expert" brand recommended to me but I see a local store sells "Ultimate moose Lure," a synthetic product by a company called Wildlife Research Center.

Buck Expert's moose lure is actually mare in heat juice.
 
Some will tell you get a mare in heat's urine. Some old timers have told me to hand a used tampon or pad near where you hunt. It works except when it doesn't, I guess.

Personally, I put more faith in a cover scent than an attractant.
 
Nothing puts off a stink like a mare in heat. Once I purposely picked out one of our cycling mares to take moose hunting . Once finished for the night we had a bull follow us halfway back to camp in the dark, kind of had to re think that decision haha.
 
I use it in setups for moose sometimes in the hope that when they circle trying to pick up the sent of a cow, they catch that and follow it in instead of my scent.
I can't say if it actually works or not but I don't think it ever scared one off so no harm in trying.

I am not above trying various things to have a successful hunt. I guess I always found it weird to see folks spraying themselves with doe urine. I don't think I am dedicated enough to plunk my hard earned cash down on some animal piss. Would a moose even be able to tell if another moose pissed? Wonder if there is actual science for this or if people just selling "snake oil".
 
I have used sent sticks you light them they give off ether a bull in rut sent ,, or they have cow in heat sent work very well, shot a nice bull last year with my bow at 5 yrds .. he came to sent and calls ,,

Personally, I don't think you can ever "cover" your scent enough to stop a moose from detecting you, but I think it is quite possible that a bull might investigate the scent of a cow in heat, even if he can also tell some stinky human passed by recently. Cover scents are a scam (ever heard of drug detecting dogs who sniff out drugs inside sacks of coffee?) Attractants might not be. The most certain tactic is to not let your scent go anywhere an animal might be in the first place.
 
I'm not clear how scent bound moose are, however as soon as I read the title, I thought "Sounds like a good way to get killed." But ok, carry a big bang stick and don't spill any on you or your personal effects that you might forget about later.

I have called in several good bulls over the years. Being successful using a combination of things. I used the natural cow in heat scent when it was legal in the immediate area I wanted the moose to come to. Always, but always put the wind in your favor. I try to get the lay of the land with a river or lake behind me so a moose can not circle around to get a wiff of my scent if I can. The idea for me with the cow in heat scent was to help draw the moose's attention away from something that otherwise may make him shy away. But regardless of how much mares scent you use if he a gets a good sniff off your human scent your busted and he's gone.
Cow in heat scent is a tool or aid to "help" with a combination of other methods and aids to get a moose into your sights. The synthetic scents I don't have much use for as they sure don't smell like natural mares urine. I retired from moose hunting several years back anyways, to much BS with the lottery system here in Ont. and the moose are as scarce as hens teeth in my area now anyways.
 
You will never fool a Big Game animals nose.

They will simply smell human scent mixed in with mare in heat.

Sometimes human scent won't bother a Bull Moose...other times they will circle silently downwind and leave area.

It's a good idea to use mare in heat in a mock scrape at your calling location....as a Bull might come after you leave.

we have used those sticks as well. On one trip we shot two bulls in the same cut with 100 yards of each other and about an hour apart. He came out of the treeline straight into the lure sticks and either didn't notice us till it was too late or he was too focused on lure location to pay us any attention.

just don't put them too close to your hiding spot while calling
