Hey there everyone,
I was wondering if anyone had ever heard of using soya sauce on a stump to attract moose? A buddy of mine said I should try it, but am a little hesitant... Has anyone else used it?
Thanks and have a great day!

I really hate to say so, but I think someone was just having some fun with you!
Darn it, now people are going to say that I am a skeptic. But, moose are pretty fussy about their licks. I am not too sure they just like salt, as a lick. People always refer to animal licks as "salt" licks, but actually it is really a mineral lick.
I have tasted, yes, put the soil in my mouth, to see what a well used wild animal "salt" lick tasted like. I have done this on several occasions, but to me it never even tasted salty, whatsoever!
When moose find a mineral lick they like, it will be used by many, many generations of moose. The moose will beat trails into the ground as, over the years, they come to these licks. The paths fan out in different directions, looking like spokes on a wheel. Fifty, or so years ago, BC was photographed from the air, from high levels. These photos could be bought, by anyone. I have seen moose mineral licks that could easily be seen on these photos, by the spot where the paths all led to.
If you want to try attracting moose, put out the big, I think they are forty pound, mineral blocks the ranchers spread around for their cattle. However, I am not a bit sure that moose like these blocks!

I have seen dogs eat wet dirt from a mineral lick as well, I believe they crave something in the dirt or clay. Humans take a multivitamin, dogs eat dirt.:D

Yes, 303carbine, that is cerainly correct. I have hunted quite a bit with a retired biologist. He said all animals know what mineral they need, depending on what time of year it is.
But we super smart humans don't know that, so we take the multi pill, hoping what we need is in it!

"Moose lick" - I don't recommend it - very risky.

In Matane they set out the large white blocks you can buy at the Co-op.

There is also this light gray mud that they seem to enjoy eating. I found a spot about 10' x 20' that was completely covered in tracks and what I could only guess were muzzle-marks.

I believe you are correct sir!!!

Thanks a bunch everyone! I already have a salt lick out which seems to be quite popular because the entire ground all around it has been trampled so much it's nothing but mud! I thought I'd try the soya sauce thing at a different area to see if it would work, but maybe not! (I do believe this buddy of mine was pulling my leg........)

I've heard of ppl useing soy sauce for deer . A freind of mine hunt's with a few Indian's and they suggested that he try powdered sulfur at his moose bait spot's . I went & got some to try for deer but haven't put it out yet .
