Well, where to begin? How about, I love the outdoors!
Got the idea this morning to go check my deer bait.
Was going to ATV it but since I didn't know if I really needed any feed, I decided to just walk. It's almost mid day and thought since I was walking, no point in going down there without a gun, might get a chance for a grouse or bunny so I grabbed the 12g.
Since I was walking I also grabbed the camera. Man I'm very happy I did.
No shot at the one and only grouse I came across so I continued to walk along rather oblivious to my surrounding... not the norm, I'm usually much more focused but I was really enjoying myself and not really hunting.
As I turned the last bend in my trail system which opens up to pond/beaver meadow I was rather startled when a young bull moose was just coming over the dam.. Wow maybe 10-12 yards between us. Believe me he was just as surprised as I. YIKES A big boy this time of year might not of been so kind to me, as this little guy was!
I took a few good steps back in a hurry then headed for higher ground. I wanted a photo... which he was kind enough to give. This is not the first time me and this little buggar have met this year!
Just then I hear a very large splash and so I moved along parallel to my trial which leads to my blind but is just on higher ground.
To my surprise a second moose, a female in the pond itself! I got a few great photos before she decided to leave...
At this point I'm feeling very lucky to see them but Wait it gets better.
I hear to my left some loud thrashing around and to my surprise a third moose less then a hundred yards away but in deep cover. I could see the tree tops swaying, it was getting very intense! By this time the small male is 150 yards away but still hanging around, the female is long gone.
I sit and listen for a while (maybe 5 min) and then some intense thrashing to my right begins even closer and much more serious...
The two banged around in the bush against the trees and I'm like wow, I might even get a chance to see them engage! Would be awesome! right?
The moose to my right begins calling at this point I can't help myself and I return the favour and begin calling to see if I can get him out into the open... took around 1min or so of grunting then a NICE bull shows himself.
It was awesome. I continued to call and he came right out around 40 yards from me to the edge of the pond.We talked for a bit then he decided to leave.
Look at the great shot he gives me!
This is on my property North of Thunder Bay...
I have a bull tag this year and when gun season opens Oct 9 I'm hoping I have this good opportunity to harvest an animal. However that said I did still feel blessed today just to experience this. I got skunked here last year so who knows. Only had a calf tag.
Here is a reverse shot from the meadow you can see my blind on the right, up on top of the rocks. I made the blind this summer.
This is one of the pond it's from my blind.
Great hunting spot. BTW this is maybe 400 yards MAX from my house.
Enjoy the photos guys and for all the hunters and nature lovers who dream of living in the bush or only get out for one week a year these are for you... This is my backyard, I'm living a dream here on just under 50 acres and thought I'd share it!
BTW the deer, bears and birds have hit the chow! I'm waiting on three trail cameras I ordered coming via mail... I look forward to seeing what has been here to visit and when!
