Moose rifle.... Browning or Thompson Centerfire?

I was talking to the gun dealer, the gun was returned because the owner bought more gun than he needed. This owner hadn't even fired a shot from it and returned it to trade up. The rep I spoke with has been to Newfoundland and thought it would be too much gun for my use too. I respect his honesty as he talked me out it.

Howdy,
I'm in the market for a .300 win mag bolt action rifle for moose hunting here in Newfoundland. Any thoughts about the Browning x-bolt medallion or a Thompson Centerfire (my brother in Nova Scotia suggests a TC as he has one). Also, what would "you" do for a scope? I'd like the total package to come in less than $2,000.
Thanks in advance,
Gary
Almost all tc models are on recall so don't buy a tc.

I wouldn't go with either. I would go with a Weatherby Vanguard and a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40. It will cost you less than a grand and will be every bit of quality of the Browning. My buddy has one in .300WBY and is sick of making ragged 5 shot holes with it. It is so accurate it is boring.

If you are going to spend $2000 on a rifle package, why Browning and TC. There are other rifles out there. I watched a slow motion burst test video on Youtube a while back.
The rifles that totally exploded was a Browning and Remington.
Other rifles like Sako and Tikka etc didn't burst.
Its just my opinion but I would spend a few dollars more and buy something other Browning or TC.
