lets say you're shooting from a pretty solid rest, at a range of 150 yards. the rifle in your hands is whatever you pack for moose

of the four options, where do you hold your sights??

Red all the way.

Most margin for error, and will take out al the vitals. I use controlled expansion bullets (X buets) so meat loss will be minimal.

Bsides, on a mosse I dont' mind wrecking a pound or 2 of meat, it's far better than losing the whole animal.

Red. Blow the shoulders up and wreck the heart/lung area. They are tough critters But it is kinda hard to get away with 2 broken legs and a hole in your heart. Lots of shock when you pop those shoulder blades and minimal meat loss.

With the ole 45-70 and no optics - RED is safest. And that big heavy ole slug'll just plow right through anything inside :) Plus, it leaves a reasonably large margin of error.

I'm not a big fan of head/neck shots, but at that range and a good solid rest, it's totally doable. If I felt the need to hunt moose with a 243, and could drive tacks with it, and saw this shot as described at 150 with a solid rest, I'd have the highest level of confidence with the neck shot. But that's purely hypothetical, as I wouldn't take a 243 moose hunting.

Probably go blue with the 7mm-08 and 308 - I don't totally trust them to make it through the shoulder without deflection

red, excellent

perhaps blue

and pruple is plain silly, you might mess up that rack :(

green is a bit risky and you messup a nice chunk of meat, I would rather take out the sholder then mess up the hump.

red is the safest. if you pull your shot back your in the blue, forward still drops. if i was real close 75 yds or less i would take the neck shot.

150 yards at a moose, how much margin of error do you need???

Blue all the way, not touching that shoulder meat.

I don't get the hump thing either????

Take the red, green and blue then draw a triangle. I would shoot my first shot in the middle of the triangle, then put another 2 into it as it turns to the right to run away.
