red for me - as somebody else said, I'm not going to worry about a pound or two of meat on something that size, but as somebody else said, the only thing I would aim at that beauty this year is my camera (no, not one, nada, adult tag - last year we had a cow tag and filled it, but this year, bring on the calves please!!!)

I'd chase it closer to the road, then I'd shoot it in the blue instead of busting up the shoulder.

Besides, it's not like your not going to get a follow-up shot in that wheat field or whatever it is. You wouldn't need the follow-up anyways.

red/blue is ideal.

You hear many hunters talkin about shooting for the hump.Never could understand this.
I have never shot the hump before, but last year witnessed it first hand and is very effective and virtually no meat loss. It's basically instant paralysis/broken base of the neck for the moose. It seems that a bullet impact in this area distributes so much shock through the animal that it is sure to drop. The previous year I hit one dead on in the shoulder with a 7mm mag and oh what a waste of meat that was. just my 2 cents

Pink. I would be concerned about hitting the tops of grass or willows if going for the red or blue. Or my brother could call it in closer for a better shot.

Take the red, green and blue then draw a triangle. I would shoot my first shot in the middle of the triangle, then put another 2 into it as it turns to the right to run away.

If I was using a shotgun with slugs, that would be my choice too.

It all depends on the rifle/caliver/sights for me.
If 308 sporting a heavy 180 gr NP - then red all the way.
any caliber with iron sights and a good bullet - red.

if hunting with lighter bullets (the moose showed up unexpected) and no time to switch, then the purple / pink would be my choice. Optical sights and big confidence in the rifle are in the soup too, to take the neck shot.

The green would be a target only if it was the only one, or if I was hunting with an SKS using FMJ.:p

I said blue because that way no meat wasted. If I was in the bush or near the water though I would probably take the shoulder shot as I want it to fall where it was standing.

Unfortunately no. This is a regressive genetic gene found only in moose living around Vanderhoof BC.

Our moose aren't colour-coded the way they are out west, but they do have a spot on the shoulder to aim at.;) :D
