More attention from mnr opp.

Wow, different worlds I guess. Our camp asked that the "new" CO stop buy our camp and get to know each other as we had some questions about whether he would classify the trail as a road, if so we had concerns about road hunters, poachers, etc.

Nice meeting, straight up guy however we never saw him this recent hunting season.

I do understand the harassed feeling as Lake Scugog fishing is almost non existent now due to the OPP playing with their Zodiac, DRPS playing with their Zodiac and the MNR doing their thing, sometimes all on the same days. Then they all bring their sleds in winter.

Way too much "help" for any serious fishing to take place.
 
I got checked coming out of Luther Marsh on opening day of Duck season in 2014. No problem, I saw he was checking the car in front of me so I got out had my license and firearm ready for inspection. He checked if I was legal and checked my magazine plug. I was on my way in two or three minutes. The MNR and OPP are not harassing you if they check you out - they are doing the job which taxpayers pay them to do. Full stop.

Whoa.... we got a tough guy here.....

First off, you didn't mention where your camp was in this thread.... We aren't psychic.....

Second off, CO's make between 60 and $85k a year.... So not quite sure where you get this 6 figures stuff from.....

Thirdly, they are doing their job.... and it's not an easy one... would you like to be approaching armed potential poachers for a living?.... Sometimes in large groups? If approached by a warden and checked simply produce your license etc and go on with your day..... It's really not that big of a deal unless you have something to hide.....

Checks are a GOOD thing, they protect those hunting legally. Treat the COs respectfully and it's a friendly conversation usually to boot, in BC they even do frequent highway game check points where all traffic checks through, if you're loaded with game just ask where they'd like you to pull off. If you act irritated to see them or as if it's an inconvenience, you're going to have a longer day. Reference Chris Rock'a advice on dealing with police, much of it translates.

If you feel that you are being unfairly harassed by your local COs and OPP officers, then I suggest you take it up with the local bosses of these 2 Gov't branches. I know that in the Yukon the COs make it a point of spending a lot of their time and resources on known poachers and the RCMP make it a point of keeping an eye on known offenders of other laws. I suggest that you inquire with these two enforcement agencies as to whether you or any of your buddies are the subject of any ongoing investigations. Perhaps there is good reason why you are being checked so often?
It is also a fact that COs spend way more time in high density usage areas, it only makes sense. The more people use any given area the more likely it is that there will be infractions. May I suggest that you get off the beaten path a bit and see if you feel you are still being checked more often than what should be normal. If you are then refer back to paragraph 1..........

On a second note, of all the people and posts on these forums that could be classed as trolling, I have absolutely never seen one from Superbrad that even comes close, however I can not say the same of your posts, which all seem to be moderately to blatantly controversial. This very post, and it's wording towards the COs and OPP officers, tells us a great deal about your personality............

Similar story with me during moose season. I was driving some of the logging roads stopping here and there to look for sign after my morning watch. Some other hunters came along and stopped to chat and a couple of minutes later the COs showed up. I had my moose license and outdoors card out by the time they got out of their truck and handed them over saying 'I expect you'll want to see these'. He asked about my rifle and I told him it was in the back seat of my jeep, unloaded, and in a hard case closed but not latched. I told him I had another underneath it trigger locked in a closed and latched hard case under a blanket and I opened the door for him to have a look. He checked the one on top, saw that it was just as I told him and didn't bother pulling it right out to check the one below it. By that time his partner had checked the other hunters I was talking to, the COs went back to their truck for a minute and called in our outdoors card numbers, everyone was clean, so they left. The whole thing took a few minutes. The funny thing was, I drove in a loop in the opposite direction to the COs and saw them again about 45 minutes later. They flipped on the lights to stop me but as soon as I rolled down my window they recognized me, smiled, said 'we already talked to you, you're OK' and went about there business while I went back to my spot for my afternoon watch. Both encounters were respectful on both sides, even friendly.

I have a feeling the province being it debt hundreds of billions of dollars and civil servant making six figures are trying to justify ther huge wage.Imo.

I wouldn't call it harassment, they're doing their job. I would assume the reason you keep getting checked so often is due to the company you keep. Perhaps they've had complaints about your group of friends or yourself and they're following up? I'm also not sure where you came up with the idea that they make six figures? They definitely don't make that, but IMO they should! They're understaffed and spread thin!
 
I was checked once this deer season. I'm glad to see officers out there checking up on guys. He didn't walk in and try to catch me doing anything, waited st my truck til after dark then checked my gun and license.

I told him he should cruise the roads at lunch time so eery one sees him out there. Keeps people more honest and the trespassing down. Great guy too, we talked hunting for a bit before he was on his way.
 
The CO's around here are doing a great job,although,they're spread thin. Between bone heads poaching the Ganaraska River for Salmon and Steelhead and the Ganaraska Forest for Deer and Turkey,they're on the go 24/7. We try and give them all the help we can when we can,but,it's pretty tough to keep a "handle" on it. There's an incredible number of unemployed people in this area,far more than what the media reports,so,it's understandable why it's happening.
 
I have been "checked" by CO/OPP/RCMP many times ... Matchedash Bay, Blind River, Long Point, Rondeau, Mitchell's Bay, Wolf Island, P.E. County, Huntsville, Parry Sound, Haliburton ... never a problem. Polite & courteous guys doing their job. Although not a CO, an MNR Biologist joined us in camp for dinner for several years ... he was given an open invitation to do so, while he was doing deer research in the district. Good guy ! I for one am delighted they are out doing their job.

2019 a first class constable in ontario will make over a hundred grand a year base salary it take three years to get there. I believe it's in the low 90s now that based on a 40 hour week. It does not take much to make well over a hundred.
