DonP just re-barreled a rifle in 6BR... using a known recipe for his batch of Varget and the old Berger 105's (the GOOD ones)

Here are the first two 300 yard groups...

Pretty good when you can load develop a new barrel in ten rounds...

excellent groups!

Mine is still over at the smiths being put together.

Still waiting on the scope as well though AND my stock is apparently now going to be delayed until Sept/Oct.. uggh.

Looks like i'll be picking up a stock to use then resell once the new one gets here.

I'm looking forward to seeing some groups like that with my Bbl from Ian.

Stuff like this makes me wonder what the heck I've been doing messing with these other chambers!

Time to get serious.
Does anyone know if Ian has any Barnards in stock (for a 6mmbr build?)?

From my experience, they suck. Quite a noticable difference in their wind drift, compounded by the fact that the best node I could find was at 2840 (vs 2920 with old VLD's). Best groups were .3-.4 at 120M ......Old VLDs (And I have about 150 left) are a consistent .2 . A real pleasure to shoot, damned easy to make work too.

At least they still make the "hunting Match" bullets. Hopefully this "New Coke" of the shooting world will die quickly. Eric Stecker alluded to a new very high BC 105 in the works on the 6mmBR website a while back.

X-Fan, yes he does, just a standard .473 (308) bolt face. Most of my guns are accurized Remingtons though.

Obtunded,

Pretty much all of my rifles (hunting and target) are blueprinted chromoloy Remingtons. I'm under no illusion of getting better accuracy from an aftermarket action.
That said, I was thinking that by the time I buy an action, have it blueprinted, and add all the little goodies I'm thinking the Remington will save me perhaps $200.00 over a Barnard?

I'm also considering that the 6mmbr will run at fairly high chamber pressures...Not that a Remington will fail, but with a used action who knows what abuse it has seen?
Minor details, but I can't help myself!

What are most guys running for a reamer spec?
I was thinking minimum spec, no turn, zero headspace, with the reamer cut to a seated 105 (hunting) Berger, along with matching lead angles? :D

Thanks in advance.

I would never say buying the best action is a bad thing, but there is not problem running a 6BR in a remmy action at all. Use CCI primers and you will eliminate any potential consequences of factory rifle tolerances in a 6BR. People even use Stevens actions, and they have a very sloppy fp hole.

Wait till you start pushing the 6mmBR to 1000. Then the fun begins.

Excellent groups btw. I really need to get mine back together. Recently upgraded the trigger, firing pin and stock.
Mine is on a Remmy action. It shoots just as good as the guys I shoot with that run BAT actions. That being said the BAT action is still far superior to any Remmy. Very smooth the cycle the action and easily resettable.

I am planning on coming out on the 12th of June to Rosebud to see if a 6BR and a Rempel Bipod can come close to those 6PPC particle beams that they shoot. More importantly, I just want to try benchrest and maybe I can drum up enough interest to get a match together in Kamloops one day.

Clearly it should be obvious now why 6BRs suck.... ;-)

(if I were God and I was writing the Fullbore rulebook from scratch, I'd make the cartridge for TR and Palma shooting be the 6BR rather than the .308W)

waiting for a long time to hear someone say this. There is hope for you son. Once you shoot a 6BR there is no turning back.;);)
You are right Cycbb I have strayed from the good path.....Hear my shooters lament.

Our father (Six Be-Are)....:D
I have sinned and strayed from thine X-ring.
I shall rebarrel and shoot thee more.
Give me the grace to smite thine ugly Savages.
And may thine bugholes shine upon thee.
Amen. :D

Any reamer spec worth consideration?
If you were to redo your current 6br what would you do differently?

Thanks for the input.

Thanks Ian for posting those groups. So the rifle is a Rem SA that has been accurized. 1-8" twist x 30" x 1.30. Tight neck reamer. I use a .263 bushing in Wilson dies. Scope is a NXS 5.5-22 ( 12-45 ordered). Got to go , damn work...
