I reloaded some ammo for the .308 and went to the range to see what the little Mohawk likes. I fired 11 rounds that measured 1&1/4 inch wide by 2&1/2 inch high. That might seem like a big group, but the powder and brass was different as well as the bullet weights and seating depths.
I shot some 165 Speer that measured 1/2 inch, the 190 Speer HP measured the same but lower on the target. I fired a couple 180 grain Winchester that grouped into the middle of the target at just around 1/2 inch. The 180 RN Sierra's measured 5/8ths of an inch.
The last shot was at a golf ball at 100 yds....it went somewhere behind the backstop after the 180 grain Winchester Power Point went through it. The new Weaver fixed 6x works well on the Remington 600, I am very happy with the accuracy.......
I tried some HEAVY boolitz in the .308 today, I picked up some 220 Hornady's and loaded them up with 36 grains of H4895.
They shot about 1.5 inches to the left of center at 100 yds, but the group measured an inch for three shots. I have heard the the 220's won't stablize in the 308 because of the 1-12 twist. I have debunked that myth today, at least in my gun.
