More Grizz Pics...

I'd like to hear the outcome of that when you're done.

The only way to check for certain is to strip an old 870 and the clone, grab a set of calipers and measure/compare all the parts between the two.....(guess what I will be doing when Canada Post finally decides to deliver mine).
Cheers

...Barrels are simillar to the HP-9 1 I had and do not index properly on my Remington receiver...

...or the barrel ring is brazed on the wrong spot. Either way, the Norc barrel sitting in the above REM receiver is clearly not right and may be stressing the receiver in some way...

It's beyond me why people interchange parts so liberally.

I'm not even sure if it's safe to swap parts among different Norcs, never mind REMs.

I hope not, but I feel there's a good change for someone to be hurt by such practices. Don't you guys think so?

I agree! Having read how Norc and Grizz barrels wouldn't index properly on a factory Remington is concerning. At this rate I'd rather spend slightly more money at Dlask for a separate barrel that fits great rather than a separate one from CanAm. I give CanAm credit for bringing these in but when their separate barrels arrive will they guarantee they'll fit a Rem without stressing it out:confused: Also, how consistent are they? Will 1 in 5 fit a Rem...?

I realize Norcs, Grizzlies and Rems are all different guns but mixing and matching primary parts (excluding furniture and accessories) isn't wise unless they fit totally sweet.

I've only tried three different barrels from china and they were all the same...I was a little surprised as I've read lot's of accounts hear on CGN of people that were happy with Chinese barrels on their remingtons.

Maybe it's only the recently manufactured ones that are a little off but I agree that while it will fire it does ad stress to the gun.
Just sighting down the receiver top at a bead that is twisted off center was enough for me to pass on the idea of using these barrels on Remington receivers.
I am happy with the quality of the Grizzly though!! and I'm also happy that I can use my HP9-1 barrel that I bought last year thinking I could use it on my Remingtons....

I'm just picky and have very high quality standards...that's all.

I'm sure it will "fit" and go bang but is the mag tube ring truely clocked (indexed) right? Can you provide a photo like Can-down did with a square?

I know this is off topic now but was interested in your separate barrels in the future for installation on a Remmy...

We just fit one to an 870 on Sunday. No stress. It just dropped right on. Action locked up correctly. All was A-OK.

That's intresting.
Have you tried mounting Remington barrel on the Grizz? Maybe I'll try one today....The one I tried on an HP9 was a little tight and I did not get it all the way in because I didn't want to force it.

My Remington's are all 20+years old so it's possible that things have changed a little with the newer ones...What model did you guys try?

I'm picky too and I think the Grizz is a great gun!

I'm sure it will "fit" and go bang but is the mag tube ring truely clocked (indexed) right?

I thought at first it was the ring that was off but after looking at it I agree with Easy that it is more the cutout at the breach end that is a little different.....looking forward to Ike's analysis!

Just tried an 18 1/2" parkerized Remington barrel on my Grizz and it was too tight to seat all the way into the receiver.

I'm sure it wouldn't take much fitting to make it work but it doesn't fit without removing some metal....and I can't see how it would be indexed correctly since the Chinese barrel (works well with chinese receiver) does not line up straight on the Remington so it only makes sense that the Rem(works well on the rem receiver) won't line up on the chinese receiver.

The Hp9 I had a few months ago was also tight with remington barrels but I was able to seat a blued barrel I had and it showed an index problem (exactly the opposite of the hp9 barrel on the remington)...it was twisted to the right.

to complicate things I find there are variations in tolerances within the 870s as well. Some 870 barrels fit on the sloppy side even on other 870 receivers....go figure.
Cheers

Complete factory assembled shotguns usually have parts well fit to each other. Shotguns in the hands of end users is where they become loose.

Though there are + or - tolerances allowed, I doubt the factory chooses to fit parts from opposite extremes of those tolerances.

30-40 years ago, parts were fit for reliability, by hand, were fit to be much smoother functioning. A bit looser too.

With MIM technology, or CNC machines, you don't need to fit parts any more. The process allows for much more consistant tolerances where the parts go from machine to final assembly, no craftsmen needed. ... and they're rough. ... and maybe that's good, because for a better fit, you can always remove metal, you can't put it back.

So we have parts from different factories, different Countries, different work ethics, with different tolerance allowances and different metals and different ... you get the jist of it? . ... and all these parts are expected to randomly interchange somehow. Isn't going to happen all the time.

Nothing wrong with the Grizzly as it is. Why flip and flop parts with a REM? Just keep them as they are.

I think people who buy the Norcs, really only want the short barrel I guess - and the price is certainly right on this one. :D Not like a factory $300. Remington barrel that fits. Problem is, not everyone wants to flaunt a Norinco, but having just the barrel, well, you can't really see what it is on a REM receiver.

Whatever you buy, buy lots of ammo and open her up. MAKE IT LOUD!

Good post Easy,
I should have stated a little more clearly that the tolerance changes were over the decades since the early 50s when Remingotn started manufacturing the 870. The differences I have seen are mostly in guns from different vintages when they were intermixed.
Cheers

I would definately agree that the Grizzlies are not the quality of The Remingtons but I am quite happy with mine.
The one thing that I think bugs me the most is the finish does suck. They seem to mark up quite easy.
But hey it goes BOOM and the price is right.

I agree to a certain degree on the finish. However, I do find that is is abrasive rather than weak, and rather than scratching, it often picks up marks from surfaces and appears to be scratched. We hope to switch to parkerizing as soon as the factory agrees. But I am happy with the depth, colour and consistency of the finish.
