That's actually less that I was braced for; and not really much more than a TRG given the recent price increases. I am usually adherent to the buy once cry once philosophy, so I may adjust my position on the matter once again...

IIRC, the list price on the PGWDTI site was $5200.00 -ish, and it was on for a special price of $4800.00 or so.........this was a while ago so things may have changed.

Best to contact PGWDTI directly and see what the current price is.
 
If you plain on douing any sort of carrying of the rifle you may want to look at tge weight of all your options. If it's just for range work then you might want to go all out bench rest gun?

5200 was the regular price a few years back. I suspect that has only gone up. Plus tax and shipping and spare mag and and and you are talking 6000 before you have even looked at scopes, or reloading.

If 5 grand was a realistic budget, you're going to blow it big time on a Coyote.

Never heard anyone who owns one say anything bad about them, except that the barrel is a bit short.
 
Agreed, after some quick research, while the Coyote is no doubt a very nice rifle; my original hypothesis that it puts me into a whole different price range still stands. It will go onto the "someday" list.

I would keep my eye out for a used one, the owners don't wear them out, at least not to the best of my knowledge, and your resale & factory support is excellent. At the end of the day it's your decision, I've been through several rifle builds in my time, and if you can get "a turn key" rifle that is the way to go IMO. If we could source parts expeditiously up here that would make a build a lot faster. Most of the parts you will need will come stateside, so now you have the exchange rate to absorb.

I think that SFRC? had his personal rifle for sale IIRC? The rifle is sold but it gives you an idea for pricing and what you can get out there.

I just wanted to update this thread. I really liked and appreciate all of the input from fellow CGN'ers and I think the discussions in this thread are a great starting point for anyone that is just breaking into LR/precision/tactical shooting.

I was still going back and forth about what I was going to buy, and for once my inability to make a decision paid off when the new Ruger Precision Rifle was unveiled recently. I've put a deposit on one in 6.5 Creedmoor. From the initial reports, this should be one hell of a rifle for the price. A price which leaves plenty of room in the budget for good glass, a quality bipod, any other accessories I might need, and reloading equipment/supplies!

Even if, for some reason, the gun turns out to be not as precise/accurate as everyone seems to be saying it is; when the time comes in a couple of years that my skills have progressed sufficiently enough to notice the difference then I can buy a new rifle and transfer all of the quality accessories to the new gun.

I think you'll have room to grow with the ruger. Even if it's not a laser, which is very likely, 90% of the magic is in the barrel. Just rebarrel it once you've got some time on it and the accuracy will be great.
Your next adventure is going to be getting a stockpile of 6.5 creedmoor brass.
 
Thanks ntm, good point about the barrel. ANd I have already started looking for brass. Looking, not necessarily finding... ;) All in time I suppose. As more 6.5CM guns are out there, hopefully we see more brass (as well as factory ammo) hitting the streets.
 
I went to Wholesale Sports in Calgary today at lunch to buy some tent pegs and look what I found!

Plus I grabbed a box of Hornady 140gr. Amax factory loads. That was the only 6.5 CM factory ammo they had at WS. I'll be keeping my eyes open for it everywhere I go from now on though.
 
I was in Canadian Tire at Southland and Macleod yesterday and they had a pile of 6.5 CM Hornady Superformance. Couldn't see what grain bullets but there was at least a dozen boxes.
