As well I don't know if Rick mentioned it but there is a tensioning system in there for the lever so it can be made really easy or if you want you can tighten it up so it takes a good amount of force to drop the mag. Hope I was aloud to say it. Its on the short and long action.

Nice magwell kit. But basically this retrofit will cost ~$600.00 installed +taxes +shipping both ways if out of Alberta or not too close to your shop. Everyone seems to be in the same ballpark with regards to price on detach mag kits. I am not complaining and understand manufacturing costs but is the fact that it really seems to add to the cost of a rifle the reason why Remington does not have their own detach mag option? They decided to keep their rifle prices down? The cost has to be weighed against the idea is an extra 6 rounds in a Rem 700 worth it?

Remington does offer their own DBM on some rifles. Unfortunately in this case you really do get what you pay for. They did use the HS Precision DBM on the 700MLR but it did increase the cost of the rifles by $500.00 over what a 700P was available for.

High qualty aftermarket parts are not everyones bag, but for those who want the option of a better DBM kit we offer it.
You are correct that folks who are local will have the advantage of not having to pay for shipping, but this is a common situation with every commodity that can not be avoided.

Is there still an action in the works, I remember reading about it last year or so? The name the action thread.

I would love to say yes we recycle the chips, and there are a ton of them, but last time we took several bins of chips down that weighed about 1000 pounds I got $1.56 for them all so now save alot of gas money by tossing them in our dumpster:mad:
For me to spend a couple of hours and $20.00 in diesel to take them to a metal recycler and get nothing for them makes NO financial sense.
The city will not allow commercial vertures like us to have recycle bins except for paper and cardboard and again at a cost, so I guess the tree huggers are going to be pissed:eek:

I am not sure what you pay for aluminum, so it may not be worth your time. but smelting aluminum and casting billet ingots is rather simple. If you are loosing/tossing 10 ounces, you are throwing away a good chunk of money.

Make an ingot box, either out of casting sand, steel or some other product and you can make blanks really easy. I used to do this in my garage. Except my ingots were made in cheap muffin tins. As i needed them to fit stacked in my small crucible for later casting. Some aluminum types need to 'set up' for a few weeks/months before use. Otherwise it machines gummy. So just store it and cycle in old stock once a pile of ingots starts to amass.

But like I said, I have no idea if its worth your time/overhead to do.

1000 lbs might just be worth it. Lotsa goodies there.

Maybe your kid wants to be an aluminum smelter, since he doesn't want to make rifle barrels!

Remington offered a 700P (Police) model with a 5 round DBM back in, IIRC 1996........

I bought one when they first came out.Sadly the ir mag system had issues. You would have feed issues half the time with the 3rd or 4th round . The first two would always feed fine, along with the last round.I had purchased four 5 round mags and they all had the same issue.

After putting up with the mag issues for 4 years, I ditched the 700P stock/DBM and went with the Accuracy International Chassis for the Rem 700. I use the AI 5 & 10 round mags, and haven't had a mag related stoppage in over 9 years.......

Remington eventually discontinued the 700P DBM, and went back to the internal mag with hinged floorplate.......
