I have an old Pioneer ( Chinese ) air rifle. I'm sure it was designed to shoot under 500 fps, but I doubt after 25 years it still gets anything near that. Is it possible to put a new spring in there, or put washers to make the spring "shorter"?

Of course, just measure the spring, or put washer spacers in there. But you should test the gun, it might be more powerfull than you realise, even after a long time.

But you will have a helluva time getting the spring out and a back in safely, look online for plans for a spring compressor.

i dont know how much you know about spring airguns, but in case you dont
DONT TAKE IT APART WITH OUT A SPRING COMPRESSOR!! :nest:
they are easy & cheap to make the plans are on line.

a friend of mine gave me an old 177 crack barrel last winter to practice on
(strip & reassemble) i was quit surprised at how powerfull it was when i was done, and all i did was completely disassemble it, clean all the parts & lube every thing really good on reassembly.

i had fun doing it,there was less to than i thought

D+L out of BC has utility springs in various sizes. You need to count the # of coils inside and outside dia of spring and OAL to get one that will work.Yellow forum has lots of advise on Chinese air rifles etc...............Harold

You can also cut drill and screw a large C-clamp to a 2X4 .........pyramid air has plans for the DIYS'er...........Harold
