Since this thread has morphed into more than just WSS powder availability, I will add my 2c. I can't comment on Alliant powders as we have not been shipped any in a long time (WSS might have found a supplier outside the normal chain of supply and hence the higher prices). Our prices vary from the high $30 range to the $40 range. The less expensive powder is of course the less popular types and is left over from before the recent increases. Our markup is the same as it has always been so the large increase has occurred before it reached our shelves. I am not trying to solicit business with this post as we do not ship powder and our local customers are already aware of our prices. For anyone thinking of getting out of reloading due to high powder and component pricing...loaded ammo is still hard to come by in some makes and styles and when it does arrive the prices are matching the increases we see on powder and components. Phil.
So some people are getting out of reloading because powder is $50 a pound and projectiles are $60 per 100? Loaded ammo is $40-60 for 20 nowadays.
Cost calculator for 30-06
Powder $51. Charge 57gr
Primer $55 per 1000
Case Free from range pick up
Bullet $60 per 100
Cost per round $1.07
Factory ammo $40 per 20 $2 a round.
Since you are quoting my numbers, are you refering to me and putting words in my mouth?
I didn't say I'am quiting reloading. I'm going to stop buying, and/or reduce my shooting to compensate. Better yet, I'll just buy from whomever is least expensive when eventually I will need to buy.
Right now I'm pretty much good for a few years. I can weather the storm for awhile. Hoping the economy and peoples common sense will leave this product to gain dust on the shelves.
Reloading componants have, or nearly doubled in price in a few years. For anybody who goes stateside can see the situation has changed. Things are lining up to change here. Hopefully prices don't become the new norm.
Distributors know of the demand. They will price accordingly.
Just bought the last pound of HP 38 $40. at Wholesale Calgary. If I was starting out and didn't already have reloading equipment, I wouldn't bother reloading. Loaded ammo is getting cheaper and reloading is getting more expensive.
Phil,
Please tell us about what you learned at shot, regarding the shipping of Winchester and Remington bulk brass for reloading...FS
