With the debate raging along full tilt over shooting a bear feet from your house with a .223 and then posting the pics here is a polar opposite event for everyone to chime in on.

How about we feed them when they get close and post it on facebook? No risk or harm here.....

Drive through Jasper almost anytime in the summer or in the fall during the rut. You would not believe how many stupid people are on the side of the road

Some people need a :slap: and a :kickInTheNuts:for good measure.
This is nothing even remotely similar to the other topis.
there are going to be many more bears killed because some people do not know
how to act around these wild animals.
There was another story below this one from Google about a women capturing a cub and taking it home till the CO's
got there to deal with it....

Beside the fact that IT IS KNOWN that city folks are country stupid and country folks are all redneck hicks did OP just ASSume it was city folks?

Certainly it is stupid to feed bears.
Certainly it is stupid to shoot bears on sight.

Awww yesth, a fed bear is a dead bear...............

Had this conversation with the local 'bear lady'.

Said that a Fed bear is a dead bear. But it was never about the food, it was about a bear being used to being around people that got it dead.

Also told her that I didn't go into the millions of square miles of wilderness looking for bears, so I didn't worry too much about what happened to the few bears that decided that garbage cans were a 'food group'.

Oh well. A bona-fide poacher shot that particular bear in any case,

Cheers

Like no one on this site has fed bears...Every time you put out your bait you're feeding them. The difference is a matter of degrees. Of which the bears could care less. People feeding bears is people feeding bears. Not one piece of your bait is something that could commonly be found in yours or your neighbors garbage? And of course your baiting bruins in true wilderness a hundred miles from everywhere...in places where bears truly are and will remain wild. Of course not. You're using human food in places not too far off a road and relatively close to where you or someone else lives. Very few bear hunters will encounter bears and hunt them in an area far enough from human habitation for them to remain in a wild state.

Truth is when you bait bears...they become habituated. Your scent and your bait are enough for the animal to make a connection between human scent and food. We're practically domesticating them. In fact, this process of stimulus respose is actually creating a state of learned helplessness as bears come to be reliant on humans for easy meals. One of the core principles of domestication in action.

Good points, however,
We dont hunt Bear over bait in BC.
