Morels are out in Eastern Ontario

I was out hiking with a friend yesterday, & we found these nice morels on a hardwood ridge. They will be delicious fried in butter!

Nice finde glang. What's with the different colour? (I'm not an expert)

They are all the same species of morel, the color differences are caused by age & moisture content.

I found a few the other day as well, I have tried many different wild mushrooms and these are the best by far.

Mushrooms are something I need to learn more about. The mushrooms around here are many and varied. Some excellent fare, some deadly and some very strange (the magic ones). The pine mushrooms are the main attraction in the fall and can bring big money if the market is right.

Wild leaks are ready for picking too. That's most likely what the people you saw were up too. I have property near Denbigh, Ont and I can't keep them damn leak pickers out this time of the year.

I have these growing under a pine tree in my front yard. I know they are edible but other than honey mushrooms which I am familiar with (late summer,early autumn) I'll let them grow a full and complete un molested life.
