I took "Darla" out to the range today to try some shooting at 200m. Darla has a DLASK lower, A2 Stock, A2 sights and flattop upper with 20" HBAR 1-7 barrel.

Pics are from my camera phone..sorry about that.

I was able to shoot a nice 5-shot 4.5" group at 200 meters with the open sights off of my pack. I am shooting SS109 bullets over IMR4895. Wind averaged a brisk 15km/h and the temperature was 15C.

Overall I am very happy with the accuracy I am getting. I think I do need to buy a NM front sight post as the standard post is way to wide for the small targets at 200m!

Now I need to build up the courage to try shooting from prone, sitting, etc ;-)

If you set your rifle up with a 6 o'clock hold, you will be far more successfull getting smaller groups. The targets we use for our matches are 22" tall by 18" wide and are simply an all black Fig 12/59 we make up from tar paper. Using that 6 o'clock hold you can use the same sight picture at 200m as you use for 300m and for 100m you just put about 1/4 of the sight into the target, that way you don't have to adjust untill you go beyond the 300m mark!

Scott: Tar paper is an excellent idea for targets, thanks! I was having some trouble lining up at 200m as I made the silly mistake of putting 2 targets right beside each other. Gheesh!
