I'm going to try different ideas on this last SKS.
I want to use the base of the rear sight assembly to mount a rail for some form of quick point or telescopic sight.
The base is very solid so it should make a great platform to work with.
First I will scribe a level line starting at the tab in the front where the v sight rests on and then I will remove all the material on both sides.

In my parts bin I found a steel rail that I cut a small length off and then I removed some material from the front of the rail so that it would fit inside the slot where the rear sight was pinned in.

Being careful not to over do it, I filed it until it fit real snug in the pocket that I made for it on the rear sight base.

Now I have a choice between welding it in permanently or I could drill and tap the rail base and install some clamps similar to standard ring brackets.
BUT I'm not happy with the height of this mod so I will try another rail mod on this gun before I call it done.
Give me a few days and I'll post idea 2 to part 2.
Cheers
