im not exactly sure where i would look for the laws about them so i will ask on here incase someone knows the law about them, Are you able to leagaly own mortars in canada if they are not deactivated (only for display/non-explosive rounds)?

We are not in the USA the BATFE means s**te here. As far as I know they are legal. However, if they are live and in other countries, they probably will not even allow it to be exported as a deactivated even with reams of paperwork. If it is live in the USA, you can forget about importing it.

Someone else will have to chime in with the lawyer - ese. The thing is with lawyerese, even amongst various lawyers and magistrates, varying opinions exist on what is legal or not. ymmv.

Back in the 1980s, there were quite a few 2 inch mortars available for sale. One gun shop in Edmonton had them for about $450 each.

The British Army at Suffield used the 2 inch Mortar with illumination rounds, and used field pick up mortar rounds were available if you knew where to look and knew how to reload them with a good solid wood plug that had a bit of weight inserted into the empty shell case.

So a 4" S&W 686 is prohibited...and a Panzerfoust is a "can do" category??? 2" Mortar is a "no problem"!!! WTF is wrong with these a$$hats that write the gun laws????

I'm going to buy a Bazooka just out of spite...I'm going to hang that mother on my wall AND I'll put a trigger lock on it just to show how utterly moronic these laws are.

Rant over, thanks for listening :)

well thats good news. how about artillary guns? i wouldnt mind a finding a Gamma Mörser 420mm or a Schwerer Gustav 800mm artillary gun, just for a little target practice.:D or to make sure my neighbors dog doesnt crap in my yard anymore:D

i know our laws dont make any sense. in ontario we can hunt with ANY size rifle aslong as its centre fire, yet we cant hunt with AR's. we cant own pistols with barrels 4" or shorter, why not no shorter than 4"?? we could own AR's yet we cant own AK's.:confused:

I know a guy with an Opel Blitz and a PAK40 HV 75mm......Apparently the "Museum" inspectors were always asking.....do you have rounds for that!

Never knew you could get these things...thanks guys, you have just forced someone into an impulse buy, i think a russian pm38 50mm would make a great centerpiece in any living room!

The CF is finally retiring the old 60mm mortars, too bad they won't surplus them off to the public. All the ones I've worked with date from the mid '50s.

mortar

I saw a bud light 60mm a few years ago and just HAD to have one.....ya the paperwork was a real pain and took 7 months. Ammo controlled by NRCAN?, nope just the liquor store :)
