Mosin 91/30 and Ammo Combo

So I had my Mosin delivered yesterday and OH MY GOODNESS is this thing a beauty! Not a mark or scuff to be found. Barrel is shiny and pretty. All serial numbers matching (except bayo). Manufactured in 1932. As soon as I find the SD card for the camera I'll snap some pics. I didn't get a rifle case with mine like some people but the shear quality of the one I received puts a huge smile on my face. Thanks a TONNE SFRC

Another large batch went out this week. They had to send another truck to get them all the one day :)

I just added more Mosins.

"NETWORK DISRUPTION DUE TO PRIOR WEATHER CONDITIONS". The flooding in Toronto seems to have delayed some stuff. A bunch of stuff I mailed Monday was only delivered today and it is usually next day.

I got my mosin in last week... the stock is a little beat up.. but I kind of like it that way, everything else is flawless... also its 1944 with a Hex receiver.

My question is do I need to sweat cosmoline out of my stock like I have seen some guys doing on youtube?

This is my first gun.. so not sure if its a noob question or not.

Shoot it a bunch, that will help sweat out the cosmo!

Not sure about having to sweat out the cosmoline, I've never had a problem with it.

I ordered two mosins from SFRC and the second one was a fairly beat up '40. I refinished the stock, highly recommend doing so if yours is in hard shape.

heres what I did if you are interested:
1. remove the stock from the rifle
2. wiped paint thinner over the stock (I heard that cosmoline will mess up the new stain, and that paint thinner removes cosmoline. I'm unsure if this did anything. I did not notice anything being removed from the stock.)
3. Sand off the old finish with sand paper. I used medium grain.
4. Applied Minwax polyshades "Bombay Mahogany" as per directions. (two coats, light sanding between coats)
5. Then I went crazy and painted some parts silver, this would be optional.

You can buy all of this stuff at canadian tire for less than $20, and have enough to do plenty of rifles.

I refinished a pre 1930 hex that had badly peeling shellac simply with tru oil after stripping. Looks fantastic.

Remember these rifles were not originally "red". Underneath that stuff that they slapped on post war is some nice wood.

That looks really nice, thanks for the info, I think I will be attempting this with my Mosin.

Thanks for the info. Copy - pasting this now so I can do this to mine.
