Mosin 91/30 muzzle brake, short barrel, front sight replacement/ adjustment

Hello, some of you like Mosin. Fewer people like to experiment/ modify their guns.

1. Here is my Mosin with 24.5 in cut barrel. Why cutting barrel-it is easier to hunt, I guess with a bit shorter one (IMHO). There is a scientific paper on line re: shortening Mosin barrel and precision/ bullet energy, which shows that before 24 in the precision and bullet energy compares somewhat to the original Mosin 91/30 length: http://honors.usf.edu/documents/thesis/u82488180.pdf.

2. The front sights were replaced with Brass Stacker front sight replacement kit (Steel): http://brassstacker.com/mosin-nagant/Mosin-Nagant-9130-Front-Sight-Adapter-MN-FSAR.html. Somehow, this one, although being the right size, needed 1-1.5 mm filing as well, to fit

3. The muzzle brake (Steel) was purchased from Sas Tactical: https://www.facebook.com/SASTacticalBrakes/?fref=ts, which has quite a variety of muzzle brakes. The guy was very kind, responsive and guided with advices. He can also include the the threading die.

4. Finally, I had to buy a front sight adjustment tool (Aluminum) for Mosin M44 from bdfrohn714 @ ebay and then file extra 2-4 mm for it to fit the new sight elevation:

I thought this may be helpful for those who decides to modify their babies.

It's your's crack on. I'm guilty of D & T'ing one and installing a poorly done bent bolt...Guilty your Honour.
But really...a muzzle brake...on a 91/30? That is well...impressive... like Homemade stacks on a 20 year old diesel truck, lol.
Why?

Well, both 91/30 Mosins go into "sporterized version", so Muzzle Brake I guess will reduce recoil, which is quite impressive on those.
I realize that all mods cost already 3x more than the gun itself...
But isn't it nice being in the garage by yourself in piece and quite atmosphere, do your mods and have a nice excuse for being alone with your thoughts and not bothered by anyone?
I guess this meditation moment is why I am doing my mods

BTW, the bend bolt is the original sniper bolt, which I ordered from Russia. This bolt was recently recovered from the battlefields around Moscow... very cool, the bolt is sacral, it has to be original, no mods to it, since the every shot to the nazzi invaders was starting from touching the bolt...

Just poking, I've never been bothered by recoil...No pain...no brain, maybe?
BTW, I don't entirely dislike the look, your bolt looks better than the one I did.
I'm a Trad milsurp guy, but don't see the harm in modding 1 of 37 million. Go and shoot the snot out of it, get good and skunk some high end ( $$$ ) shooters.
Having thrown down a Sniper looking knock off...you really do need to reload though. If you like getting the 'Zen' modding...reloading is also very good for the soul. Read somewhere that traumatized Veteran's do really well ( As far as PTSD symptoms go ) when they practice reloading. Very calming.

This time, it's a modernized version of the Kochetov's POSP scope mount, which resembles the original POSP scope mount.
It took most of the time to more or less precisely trim the stock for the new scope mount:

I shoot my 308 in a T shirt. But I find the M44 painful to shoot. A muzzle brake sounds like a good idea. But you will always need ear protection.

24" isn't a short barrel. This is a short barrel, Bare min legally allowed.

BTW, the bottom one on this image,
doesn't quite work: it obscures the sights a lot and if you push it towards 300m or so it is quite challenging to use:

the front one might work, I will try it tomorrow.

The shooting was perfect, muzzle brake from Sas Tactical is awesome, I hardly felt any recoil.
