Mosin 91/30 Snipers?

ok no hard feelings taken. I do not what propaganda you are talking about. I know one thing that Russian snipers were not picked out of simple people. I know for a fact because I talked to older people who were in the war and to my grandfather and father. To become a sniper you have to go through selection process.
1. You had to grow up in hunter family.
2. You have to have 20/20 vision
3. You go to sniper school.
4. You have to pass it with flying colors.

I just want to say that first of all it was prestige to be a sniper and it was hard to become one. Think about it as NHL player nowadays. One thing I know for them to lie about their numbers was equal to lying about Gretzky score sheet. Anyway those snipers were known by simple soldiers and the soldiers saw who is good. By the stories I heard none of them were even close to be bad.
Anyway I just don't what propaganda you are talking about and where you take your facts. If I am wrong or not correct please let me know. Don't worry about offending me. It is just a discussion :) :D
No offense intended.

I believe you misinterpreted my comment. I wasn't suggesting that the individual Russian soldiers were inflating their own numbers. I have no way of knowing that, nor would anyone who was not present at the time.

I was simply stating that "official" numbers were whatever Stalin's Soviet propaganda machine (written about in countless books) wanted them to be.

For what purpose? Just like all other propaganda...to exert influence over people, to boost domestic morale, erode the enemy's morale, further the myth of one race's superiority over another etc...

These tactics during wartime have existed throughout history and the Soviets are not alone by any means.

OK, great. If you would like to research the subject, this is a good bibliographical starting point:

Most interesting to find how Russia rewarded snipers in those times and used heavily at war. In the democratic world same era sniper were looked upon in disgust and never used properly.

They killed a lot enemy in WWII because of it with efficiency and I believe from what I read Stalingrad was won because of heavy sniper concentration which helped turn the war. That was a huge history lesson for all to learn.

Germany had way more than they bargain for with the invasion of russia. Manys bad surprises wait for them:
-The winter
-New russian tank that could rival with what the germany had to offer
and possibly the worst surprise was that red army full of skilled snipers and to not forget that manys of them were womans. And the Mosin proven to be 1 of the best, if not the best sniper rifle. The PU optic can take lot of abuse and still work perfectly. You had to be talented to make long distance shot with an optic of only 3.5X of magnification. ofc sniping doesnt always mean firing at long distance, at Stalingrad, sure that many kill were made a pretty much short range. The distance is not important, what your bullet hit is, and even better if you can make it with the first shot.:)
