Mosin bolt scars

My Mosin's bolt has interesting marks. Too deep for rust/pitting. What do you guys think - battle scars (shell fragments) or just some "arsenal scr3w-up"?

I agree, shrapnel strike from something high velocity and metal for sure.

Interesting, I haven't seen anything that bad before. Certainly adds character.

Actually looks like a bad casting job, you can see its a little "bubbled" in the large divet.

There were machined IIRC, not casted.

these are not casting sink holes - edges of "craters" are raised above bolt's surface
